million residents in the Fort Worth/Dallas Metroplex, as Figure 01-2 illustrates. Fort Worth is supporting a much larger regional population that relies heavily on the city for jobs, services, and connections to the wider metroplex. This dynamic places Fort Worth at the core of a growing network of communities including Johnson, Parker, Wise, and parts of Denton County that rely heavily on the city for employment, services, and connectivity. As these neighboring areas continue to expand, Fort Worth’s trans- portation infrastructure must support both its internal population and the additional 2 million residents in the surrounding region. This reality creates significant challenges for the city’s transportation system. Key corridors like US 287, US 377, and SH 114 are already feeling the strain, acting as critical links between Fort Worth and these surrounding areas. As these outlying communities continue to grow, Fort Worth’s transportation network will experience more pressures to handle both local traffic and a large volume of regional commuters. Without careful planning and strategic upgrades, congestion and delays could become the norm, impacting quality of life and economic opportunities across the region. Addressing this strain will involve planning for cross-city mobility solutions that not only accommodate the city’s growth but also anticipate the future needs of the broader region. Fort Worth’s role as an anchor for Greater Fort Worth means that its transportation strategies must be scalable and forward-thinking, ensuring smooth and reliable access for the entire 3-million-strong population that depends on the city as a regional hub.
