Street Connectivity Fort Worth’s street network has a connec- tivity ratio of 1.23, indicating a moderate level of connectivity. This ratio—representing the number of street segments per intersection— reflects the overall accessibility and route options within the road network. Generally, a higher connectivity ratio provides more travel options, which can lead to reduced conges- tion, shorter travel times, and fewer crashes. As shown in Figure 02-31 , Fort Worth’s connectivity ratio is lower than some peer cities. For instance, Austin (1.28), San Antonio (1.27), Columbus (1.52), and Seattle (1.54) all
to Dallas (1.13), highlighting an opportunity to improve connectivity and better align with cities that have higher ratios. Within Fort Worth, the difference in connec- tivity is also evident when comparing neigh- borhoods. As shown in Figure 02-32 , the Shaw Clarke neighborhood, with a connec- tivity ratio of 1.72 and a higher intersection density, experiences fewer crashes (162) than South Edgewood, which has a lower connectivity ratio of 1.61 and nearly double the crashes (294). This contrast suggests that improving street connectivity in certain areas could enhance safety and accessibility by dispersing traffic and offering more route options.
