Three Titles 1. “Imm anuel” (Isa. 7 :1 4 ). This prophecy is specifically confirmed in Matthew 1:23, where th e title is in te r preted as “God- w ith us.” 2. “The G reat God” (T itu s 2 :1 3 ). By every known te st of greatness we affirm th a t our Lord Jesus Christ was really great. , 3 . “The T ru e God” (1 John 5 :2 0 ). In th e course of H is m inistry our Lord said, “ I am th e T ru th ” (John 1 4 :6 ). As a m a tte r of fact He was th e personifica tion of T ruth. 4. “My Lord and my God” (Jo h n 20: 28 ). Thomas was no t inclined to assent to ano th er’s testimony, b u t m ust see for himself. To his cred it le t it be re corded th a t as soon as he saw he had only one rem a rk to make, and th a t in these noble words, “My Lord, an d my God.” As a resu lt of these we pass on th e comment of th e M aster: “ Blessed are they th a t have no t seen, and yet have believed” (John 2 0 :2 9 ). L et th is, blessedness be our portion. MSr ROBERTSON ON SECOND COMING Professor A. T. Robertson, who is undoubtedly th e leading New T estam ent au th o rity in th e country, opens his paper w ith a statem en t which is abso lutely final in th e m atter: “There is no shadow of doubt th a t Jesn s ta u g h t th a t H e would come back a fte r His Ascension. I t cannot be ex plained away as a mere ‘though t-fo rm ’ of th e age, th e language of Jew ish apoc alypticism adopted by Jesus to cheer His disciples. I t is a personal coming on a p ar w ith His Incarnation. We are a t liberty if we will to say th a t Jesus was m istaken about it and th a t He m is led th e disciples on th is point, b u t sane exegesis cannot get rid of th e fact th a t Jesu s expected to come back to earth as Conqueror and King.
