hard for that result, and I appreciated the support of a superb group of dedicated volunteers, though the future of the office remains uncertain. Leadership is not about waiting to see which way the political wind blows – leadership is about listening to your constituents and delivering results. I have and will listen, and I’m ready to deliver. “Serving as a municipal councillor is a wonderful opportunity that I am greatly enjoying and that I am still fully dedicated to,” she said. “However, I know that I can make a bigger impact for our communities at the provincial level.”
Amanda Simard is looking at maybe trading her seat on Russell Township council for a possible run at joining the provincial legislature. Simard issued a press release to media announcing she will run as a candidate vying to become the Progressive Conservative candidate for Glengarry-Prescott-Russell when the next provincial election is called. For now she will continue to sit as a councillor for Russell Township while waiting to see how the nomination process goes, but she expressed both confidence about her chances along with her reasons for seeking the nomination.
Simard joined township council following the 2014 civic elections in Ontario. To celebrate the National Foster Family Week, held fromOctober 16 to 22, Valoris of Prescott and Russell will organize an evening of recognition to acknowledge the outstanding work of foster families. During the event, they will recognize the years of dedication of some families, ranging from 5 to 40 years of service, and celebrate the commitment of other families who are leaving. A sense of belonging to a family can only exist in an atmosphere where individual differences are valued and prized, mistakes are tolerated, communication is open and rules are adapted. According to Valoris, this is the heartwarming atmosphere that can be observed in foster families and homesharers of Prescott-Russell. The commitment and investment shown by all members of the family unit in a foster family allow children and adults to have the opportunity to thrive and grow in a safe en- vironment. The family members, including natural children must share their family’s closeness and love with children or adults, who sometimes only cross their path tem- porarily. Over the years, the definition of family has evolved tomeet the changing times and to reflect the diverse population of today. In Ontario, the evaluation criteria for people who want to become foster families or ho- mesharers have also changed with time. Despite a busy lifestyle, it is possible for an individual or a couple to welcome someone in their home and family.
