CASSELMAN l Un an après une première rencontre, un second 5 à 7 était organisé à Casselman, la semaine dernière, afin de conscientiser les employeurs de l’Est onta- rien à une future pénurie potentielle de main-d’œuvre. Organisé par le village de Casselman et le Réseau de soutien à l’immigration fran- cophone de l’est de l’Ontario, en partena- riat avec La Cité d’Ottawa, ce rendez-vous a réuni une quarantaine de personnes au complexe J. R. Brisson. L’adjoint spécial prin- cipal de Madeleine Meilleur, ministre délé- guée aux Affaires francophones, Michael McLellan, la coordonnatrice du Réseau de soutien à l’immigration francophone, Ma- rie-Élise Lebon, et Linda Manning, écono- miste interculturel, se sont joints au maire de Casselman, Claude Levac, et à l’un de ses conseillers, Mario Laplante, pour parler de la situation alarmante et ainsi apporter des solutions sur la façon de recruter de la main-d’œuvre qualifiée provenant hors du Canada. «Ce sera aux employeurs d’aller chercher les employés qu’ils désirent, a déclaré Mme Lebon. Trouver un travail, c’est une chose, mais rester dans la région en est une autre. Il faut savoir non seulement accueillir les nouveaux arrivants mais savoir aussi les RUSSELL l The Russell Ladies’ Night event committee announced in a press confer- ence on March 7 that its chosen charity for the annual Ladies’ Night fundraiser this year is ALS Canada. The theme of the night is Disco Flower Power and the date is Friday, May 2, at the arena in Russell. Each year 600 women at- tend the event, which features dinner by A.J.’s Catering, serving by the men of the Russell Agricultural Society and sponsor or- ganizations, silent auction, live auction with the James’ family auctioneers, and lots of prizes, all followed up by dancing. Funds from the live and silent auctions will go to ALS Canada, a charity dedicated to the fight against Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (Lou Gehrig’s Disease). Leanne Johnson, Regional Manager for ALS Canada, attended the press confer- ence at Scotiabank in Russell. “We are really excited to be getting together with these ladies,” she said. “This money will definitely make a difference.” She serves clients from the Quebec border to Napanee. The disease strikes suddenly, its cause is unknown and there is no cure. Johnson said the funds will
enhance care for clients from the local area. In previous years the event has raised over $20,000 for its chosen causes. All tickets must be purchased in advance.
