Finding a friend you trust to talk through your feelings with or expressing your need for more mental support to your physical therapist are powerful ways to get the help you need. When you feel confident in your body’s ability to recover from the injury or pain, that’s when the real healing happens. At Madden Physical Therapy Dauphin, we want nothing more than to see our patients succeed and meet their goals. Talk to your physical therapy team if you feel you need more support on your journey. Injuries and pain can be debilitating, and the road to recovery can be long and tough. But with help from your physical therapist, you can hit the trails with your friends and the park with your grandkids without thinking twice.

But is your mental health being treated, too?

As you heal from an injury, you’re faced with many psychological roadblocks. There’s the initial injury and overcoming the pain and shock. There’s the first real test your physical therapist makes you do. There’s the plateau you reach and have to overcome as you work through your treatment. As you overcome each one, your confidence will start to come back, and you’ll feel encouraged. But what happens when it gets tough? What if you are limited in what you can do until you heal? Are you comfortable asking others for help, or will you feel like a burden? What if you can’t garden or work on your car? Do you have outlets to tide you over until you can do so again? Easy Irish Soda Bread Inspired by AllRecipes.com Irish soda bread is a staple of many St. Patrick’s Day celebrations, but it was born out of necessity for the impoverished citizens of Ireland way back when. Celebrate their ingenuity and grit with this easy, modern version.

Ingredients

• 4 cups all-purpose flour • 4 tbsp white sugar • 1 tsp baking soda • 1 tbsp baking powder • 1/2 tsp salt

• 1/2 cup margarine • 1 1/4 cups buttermilk, divided • 1 egg • 1/4 cup butter, melted

Directions

1. Heat oven to 375 F, and lightly grease a large baking sheet. 2. In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking soda, baking powder, salt, and margarine. 3. Stir in 1 cup buttermilk and egg, and mix until dough comes together. 4. Knead dough on a lightly floured surface. Form dough into a round before placing it on baking sheet. 5. In a small bowl, combine melted butter and remaining 1/4 cup buttermilk. 6. Brush the raw loaf with this mixture and cut an “X” into the top. 7. Bake loaf for 45–50 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean after being inserted into center of loaf. You may need to continue brushing the loaf with the butter mixture while it bakes.
