THE FUTURE OF THE HIGH STREET

Gloucester Business Improvement District

Gloucester BID was set up in 2017 with the aim to improve eight main aspects of the city. These eight targets are safety and security, street cleanliness, physical and environmental improvements, area marketing and promotion, supporting and promoting events, business cost reduction, facilitating networking opportunities and dealing with public bodies. Improvements made have been in addition to the projects already supported by the city council and not as replacement for current services. Safety Now in its third year, the City Protection Officers have continued their good work, garnering praise from the Police and Crime Commissioner’s Office and lauded for their professionalism and customer service. Other BIDs including Cardiff, Bristol and Worcester have shown interest in starting their own scheme. Street cleanliness Working in partnership with Gloucester City Council, the BID helped make recycling more fun by redesigning a bin on Southgate Street, with more to follow. The CPOs are also our eyes on the street and have direct links in with GCC and Amey to deal with any incidents. We are in ongoing talks with

the council with regards to ensuring they and their contractors fulfil their obligations.

Environmental improvements Thanks to the BID, the city centre is a more colourful place because of street dressing such as flags, and the planting and watering of trees and flowers in hanging baskets, troughs and planters. The winter planters have been placed throughout the city streets, following great feedback from businesses and residents in the summer. Area marketing The BID continues to promote major festivals and events using 105 lamppost banners on major
