"We hope that our playful and contemporary design will re-energise the square and help it to once again become a proud focal point for the local community, as well as an attraction for visitors from near and far for many years to come." When complete, King’s Square will be completely transformed, with the work on its northern and eastern edge forming part of the King’s Quarter development. A new pedestrianised street will link the station through to the square, splitting the development of 150 new homes and 40,000 square foot of office space. On the corner of the square, King’s House, currently The Chambers pub will be transformed. The upper floors would become a creative hub full of shared office space, while the building will have Gloucester’s big screen TV affixed to the wall facing the square. And with exciting changes planned for King’s Walk shopping centre too, the current tired and uninspiring square is set to be completely transformed. Cllr James added: "By proposing a mix of uses in the square, Gloucester will continue to succeed as times and habits change. For the square itself, the design has been led by landscape architects Novell Tullett with support from fellow Bristol architects AHR and international engineering firm AECOM. The sculptural edge of the square has been designed by the internationally-recognised firm George King Architects, whose founder is a Gloucester boy. George King said: "We are very excited to be a part of such an important initiative for the city of Gloucester.
