I condemn this beastly civilization where men are thrust down to the animal level both by birth and manner of life, where the atmosphere is godless and where the souls of men are sold so cheap in the markets of the world; a civili zation in which a golden calf has been substituted for the good God; a civilization marked by the nakedness of women and the sensualness of men, and the selfishness and mater ialism of the unholy combination; a civilization robbed of its spiritual treasures and its high ideals; a civilization made the foul victim of hell’s bandits. We must go back to the supreme necessity of training our youth in a better way and doing all within our power to save their morals and their spiritual life. This should be our program for all of our citizens from the lowest to the highest. A friend recently gave me a fragment of his experience when on a recent visit to the Southern States in having his shoes polished by a negro who did his work vigorously and well, he asked the negro if he was going to heaven or hell. The latter immediately replied “ To heaven, of course.” Then the conversation continued and my friend asked him how he knew he was going to heaven. He instantly replied, “ Ro mans 8:1 in the Bible says so.” Then another interroga tion— “ How do you know the Bible?” He replied: “ I know the key-verse of every book in the Bible,” and immediately began with the first book and went through them all with wonderful accuracy. God speed the day when every man, woman and child, black or white, rich or poor, high or low, can do that. Then, and the only, will the Republic be safe. George Washington loved this old Book; Abraham Lincoln loved this old Book; Theodore Roosevelt loved this old Book; President Harding loved this old Book, and by God’s grace, we must make this ideal for every citizen under the best flag which the breezes wave, and the sunlight kisses, and the round world re spects,— “ The Bible and the flag, now and forever, one and inseparable!” SUNDAY, 25—Genuine Humility.— “ Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.” -—Matt. 11:29. “Best” Books Books that have a worthwhile message Getting things from God By Dr. Charles A. Blanchard If you care for a book that will not only be food for your soul while being read but will also result in a very definite deepening and broadening of your prayer life, this is the book to read, reread and then pass on to your friends. Paper, 75c; Cloth, $1.25 The Chronology of the Bible By Philip Mauro His Appearing and His Kingdom A NEW BOOK By Fred E. Hagin

The d e e p l y interesting premise of this book is that the Bible system of chronol ogy has a basis, a plan and a purpose of its own. The au thor’s argument is that this chronology is not a mere sys tem of dates, but a revelation of vital truth concerning the Divine purpose. It shows how the great landmarks of Bib lical history are so related in Scripture as to reveal the be ginning, course and outcome of God’s marvelous plan of redemption. This volume meets a real need by making a compact and thorough work on Bible chronology available to Bibli cal students and Christian workers. The complete table of dated events of the Bible is a very useful feature of the book. Cloth, $1.00

The well-known Evangelist W. E. Biederwolf, says: **I think it fortunate that we can have the whole plan of His appearing and His kingdom set forth in such a clear and helpful way. I find that the average .person tires quite often of many of the pre sentations of this subject and one of the happy things about this effort is that the book is so thoroughly interesting that people will not only read it, but read it to the end and re read it.” Cloth, $1.75

The Home God Meant

By George N. Luccock, D. D. In this day and age of revolutionized home life, lack of fam ily discipline, jazz marriage and easy divorce, it is trujy refresh ing to read the sound, sane, and safe words of the author, who himself, with his partner in life, has made the very kind of a home he so ably and attractively describes, and who for this reason is more entitled to be heard on the home. As for sub stance, the book is unsurpassed, if indeed equalled, by any other on the same or similiar themes. Cloth, $1.25 Shelton of Tibet By Mrs. A. L. Shelton “The Marachale” By James Strahan

Told by Mrs. Shelton, the constant companion of his heroic service and adventures, this life story of Dr. A. L. Shelton, missionary to Tibet, is a book of surpassing inter est and importance in the realm of missionary biog raphy. “ In the murder by bandits of Dr. A. L. Shelton, the bril liant and adventurous mis sionary, the cause of Christ in Asia lost one of the bold est and most heroic spirits known to missionary life in this generation.” Cloth, $2.00

The fascinating recital of the heroic life of Catherine Booth-Clibborn, her arduous work and the wonderful re sults on behalf of the Salva tion Army, in the redemption of people in every walk of life in Paris. A truly wonderful biography, not a superflous paragraph in the whole book. Every page will hold you spell-bound and as you read you cannot help praising God that He can and does use women in His work of saving souls. Beautifully bound in Cloth, $1.50

Prodigal Daughters

By Joseph Hocking This is not a religious book in any sense of that term, but it is exceedingly wholesome nevertheless. Present day conditions are fearlessly presented in such a way as to hold the reader spellbound until the last page is reached. It is a frank up-to- date- story. A powerful piece of writing in which the famous novelist graphically describes the struggles against the flood of new morals' and ethics and dress of the younger generation of women. * Cloth, $1.75 If money does not accompany order, goods will be sent C. O. D. unless otherwise specified. If books are to come by mail add 10% for postage.
