STORM DAMAGE REPORT DUE ON LAROSE FOREST

Counties council can expect a staff report on how much, if any, damage the Larose Forest suffered from the May long weekend storm that roared across Eastern Ontario. Some clean-up work is underway at the parking lot access near Bourget and trailheads for the recreational trails in the community forest. But Louis Prévost, plan- ning and forestry director for the United Counties of Prescott-Russell (UCPR) noted during a phone interview May 27 that the storm did “very, very minor” damage to the hiking, cycling and other recreational trails in the community forest. j8FIBWFBHPPEJEFBXIFSFUIFCSVOUPG (real) damage is,» said Prévost, adding that any significant damage may have happened to some of the tree plantation areas in the 8FOEPWFSQPSUJPOPGUIFDPNNVOJUZGPSFTU far from the recreational trails site. Prévost’s staff will do on-site inspections of the plantation areas and other parts of the community forest to assess actual damage from the storm. Aerial drone flights of areas hard-to-reach on the ground will also be part of the survey. Les sentiers récréatifs de la forêt Larose sont ouverts aux randonneurs et aux cyclistes. Un certain nettoyage de l’aire de stationnement près du point de départ des sentiers a été nécessaire en raison de la tempête de la longue fin de semaine de mai qui a traversé l’Est de l’Ontario. Le service de planification des Comtés unis de Prescott-Russell effectuera un relevé de toutes les zones de plantation d’arbres de la forêt communautaire afin de déterminer quels travaux de récupération sont nécessaires pour les arbres endommagés ou renversés pendant la tempête. —photo Christopher Smith
