University governance

The University is committed to good governance, conducting its affairs responsibly and transparently, in alignment with the requirements of the Higher Education Code of Governance and the Seven Principles on Standards in Public Life: selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty and leadership.

Board of Governors As Chief Executive Officer of the University, the

Vice-Chancellor is accountable to the Board of Governors, led by the Chair and Pro-Chancellor. Comprising a mixture of external independent members, staff and students, the Board of Governors is responsible for determining the educational character and mission of the University. It exercises oversight of our activities and ensures the efficient use of resources. The Board is responsible for the overall strategy and direction of travel of the University, setting and reviewing our key performance indicators, and ensuring the highest quality and standards in all that we do. Academic Board The responsibility for academic governance, including the management of taught and research degrees, and quality assurance, is delegated to the Academic Board, which advises the Vice-Chancellor and is accountable to the Board of Governors. University structure The University Executive Group (UEG) is responsible for the management of the University. There are five academic faculties within the University. Connected leadership The extended senior leadership of the University, approximately 80 people, meets on a monthly basis to ensure a strong relationship and collaborative working ethos between the UEG and colleagues in departments across the academy and in professional services. Professional Services Our mission in teaching and research is underpinned by our dedicated professional service teams led by the Chief Operating Officer. The Chief Operating Officer’s Leadership Team play a full role in developing the strategy and direction for the University, and are responsible for ensuring that our systems and processes are efficient and effective, enabling the smooth running of our organisation.
