We cultivate multiple relationships. Developed in partnership, our academic offer creates opportunities for our students, drives business productivity and innovation, and promotes research and knowledge transfer. We support, and are supported by, the business community. Our ground-breaking ‘Unit X’ enables students from the Manchester School of Art to work in interdisciplinary collaborations to deliver projects for clients in the city. The Crime and Wellbeing Big Data Centre combines criminology and the analysis of big data to help Greater Manchester Police improve efficiency and how policing is delivered in communities. Leading the sector in the development of higher and degree apprenticeships, we are poised to meet the exponential growth in employer demand for work-based learning programmes stimulated by the apprenticeship levy. We currently supply 17% of the total 1,000 degree apprenticeships nationally, working with household names from both public and private sectors including AstraZeneca, BAE Systems, Barclays Bank Plc, the BBC, Imperial War Museum, Manchester City Council, Thales Group, United Utilities and Virgin Trains. Driven by quality, we are dynamic and responsive and have a forward-looking approach to the development of our curriculum, facilities and offer to staff, students and partners. We are innovative and creative; continually evolving, never standing still. Our recently announced International Screen School Manchester will combine creative and craft skills with technical and digital know-how for content on everything that depends on a screen. It will pioneer a dynamic approach to research and learning, training the next generation of talent to enable Manchester and the UK to grow and compete internationally across the digital and media sectors. University governance

The University is committed to good governance, conducting its affairs responsibly and transparently, in alignment with the requirements of the Higher Education Code of Governance and the Seven Principles on Standards in Public Life: selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty and leadership.

Board of Governors As Chief Executive Officer of the University, the

Vice-Chancellor is accountable to the Board of Governors, led by the Chair and Pro-Chancellor. Comprising a mixture of external independent members, staff and students, the Board of Governors is responsible for determining the educational character and mission of the University. It exercises oversight of our activities and ensures the efficient use of resources. The Board is responsible for the overall strategy and direction of travel of the University, setting and reviewing our key performance indicators, and ensuring the highest quality and standards in all that we do. Academic Board The responsibility for academic governance, including the management of taught and research degrees, and quality assurance, is delegated to the Academic Board, which advises the Vice-Chancellor and is accountable to the Board of Governors. University structure The University Executive Group (UEG) is responsible for the management of the University. There are five academic faculties within the University. Connected leadership The extended senior leadership of the University, approximately 80 people, meets on a monthly basis to ensure a strong relationship and collaborative working ethos between the UEG and colleagues in departments across the academy and in professional services. Professional Services Our mission in teaching and research is underpinned by our dedicated professional service teams led by the Chief Operating Officer. The Chief Operating Officer’s Leadership Team play a full role in developing the strategy and direction for the University, and are responsible for ensuring that our systems and processes are efficient and effective, enabling the smooth running of our organisation.

University Executive Group The UEG is responsible for managing the University, articulating its mission, and developing and delivering strategic and operational plans. It is led by the Vice-Chancellor and comprises the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, the Chief Operating Officer, Pro-Vice-Chancellors and the Directors of Finance and Human Resources, creating a strong team fully empowered to develop strategy and deliver across the University.

One solution is to utilise the Hydrogen Evolution Reaction process, in which the hydrogen in hydrogen fuel cells produces electricity as and when required after it is stored from renewable energy.

Estates Investment Programme

In March 2017, the University Board of Governors approved the ten-year Estate Strategy (2017 – 2027). The Estate Strategy sets out a framework through which the development of the estate will support and enable the University Strategy. It will focus upon developing our existing presence within Manchester city centre and the Oxford Road corridor to support our academic ambition and reinforce the centrality of the University to the city and our community. It is a key enabler of success and of the continued delivery of a high quality student and staff experience in an increasingly competitive sector. In June 2017, the University approved the complimentary five year £378m Estates Investment Programme (2017 – 2022). The investment programme outlines a range of projects that will contribute significantly towards the student experience, increase our research capabilities and improve the public spaces that connect our buildings.

The programme encompasses a range of major developments and tactical refurbishment projects as follows. The six main transformational projects include: • The Arts and Humanities development, located on the old Mabel Tylecote plot, will create an inspirational venue on the Oxford Road corridor for Theatre, Creative Writing and Multimedia Journalism (due for handover April May 2020). • The Science and Engineering development will significantly increase the university’s capabilities and profile within key research areas. • The new International Screen School Manchester will be home to an interdisciplinary digital skills powerhouse, supporting the growth of a priority sector in the regional economy. • An enhanced offering for sport which would bring together all of our activities to deliver an optimal environment for academics, performance athletes and recreational athletes to excel. This will include world-leading research, high-quality academic courses and support for all to participate in sport for recreational and health-related reasons. • Strategic investment in the Student Residential portfolio to increase the proportion and quality of university centrally controlled beds. • The refurbishment of 6 Great Marlborough Street for use as professional services office accommodation to facilitate numerous projects on the retained academic estate. Other planned investments include improvement of our public realm spaces, the installation of an energy centre and heat network to provide utility resilience, additional facilities at Platt Lane and Sugden in support of the participation sport strategy and a number of ‘business as usual’ projects to protect the student experience. Projects within the programme are in various stages of development. The first major project to be delivered will be the refurbishment of 6 Great Marlborough Street in summer 2018. The Arts and Humanities development is well matured and contractors will start on site in the coming months.

Principal Accountabilities

Estates, Facilities & Capital Development (EFCD) employs 600 FTE staff directly and significant numbers of contractors. The Head of Integrated Services will be responsible for providing central support to the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), whilst leading cross functional projects affecting multiple teams across EFCD. The role will also be the strategic lead on all EFCD communications both internally and externally to our customers and colleagues across the university.

The role will be accountable for ensuring EFCD becomes a fully integrated Directorate with a One Stop Shop responsive service to all our colleagues and students. Working with the SLT the role will ensure administrative and business support is prioritised and consistently delivered to a high standard across all functions.

The postholder will also be responsible for leading on the Directorate’s Strategic Communications plan, driving the customer engagement strategy to ensure ease of access to Services whilst instilling a culture of integrated service excellence and continuous improvement. The role will take the lead on the Journey to Service Excellence programme.

The postholder will have the responsibility for liaising with ISDS and others in supporting programme integration systems and processes to support continuous improvement and efficiencies across all day to day services and bespoke projects provided by the EFCD teams.

The EFCD Integrated Service Delivery Team provides an integrated professional support service across EFCD, being led by the Head of Integrated Service Delivery who is a member the EFCD Senior Management Team (SMT).

The Head of Integrated Service Delivery reports into the Assistant Director of Estates and works collaboratively with the EFCD SLT.

The role

Key Tasks

• Ensuring all files and shared records are version controlled and located for simple access when required.

Strategic & Operational Communications

• Line manages the Project support administrators and executives to ensure individuals are supported and competent to do the work; providing cover as necessary. • Prepare project correspondence, presentations and communications as needed for status reports, leadership updates, annual planning etc.

• The post holder will lead on integrating Strategic Business Objectives within EFCD and requirements in order to develop, own and lead the EFCD Communications Plan and strategic objectives.

Administrative Support

• Partnering with the EFCD SLT, to provide a robust and cost effective administrative support service.

Continuous Improvement

• Improves Business Performance within EFCD by developing the technology used to create actionable insights from metrics and feedback from internal and external stakeholders. • Acts as the main lead on the Journey Towards Service Excellence Programme, leading initiatives on behalf of the SLT to promote integration and collaboration across the Directorate.

• In collaboration with the EFCD SLT understand and support operational demand across EFCD and develop with them a robust workforce plan that ensures that the right resources with the right skills are recruited, trained and deployed to meet this demand. Collaborate with the HR/Finance Business Partner to refine and shape the plan, developing appropriate contingency plans and flexibility to manage demand uncertainty working with key stakeholders to ensure the plans are implemented. • The Administration Support department has responsibility for a variety of support functions across the directorate including the provision and line management of dedicated administrators and project executive support, together with implementing and monitoring the increased use of SharePoint and the R drive to manage access to central records and information

• Provide professional administration and project support to enable Project Managers.(Capital and Revenue) to produce appropriate minutes; reports and cashflow projections as required.

• Provide “project” support to EFCD systems implementation for catering, residences, print, etc.

Role profile The role

Training & Development

Develop and maintain a culture of professionalism and customer service, maintaining awareness of the issues challenging HE with the aim of creating a shared knowledge base amongst team members. Develop and promote professional standards and a collaborative style of working, encouraging the development of effective partnerships within the EFCD team and across the University.

Lead the design and delivery of communications and training for new processes, tools, policies and procedures.

Team Working

Maintains a strong relationship with all compliance departments and operations management to ensure statutory compliance is achieved and maintained.

Estates Governance and Policy

Proactively supports the business unit’s delivery of their operational compliance and service delivery initiatives.

This includes ensuring that EFCD operates within the University Governance Procedures.

Provides support & guidance to colleagues across the EFCD team.

Communications

Attend and participate in Senior Management Team meetings and by invitation within EFCD Senior Leadership Team meetings. The post-holder will normally be office based but the execution of their duties may require them to visit other parts of the University, both internal and external.

The team leads on all forms of communication with the wider University as well as ensuring internal communication and external branding are promoted consistently.

Customer Support and Integration provide the One Stop Shop including the help desk and switchboard.

Travel between University sites may be required.

Provide direct line management for the Integrated Services and Communications team. To provide appropriate supervision, motivation, training and support for staff in the team. Manage the recruitment, selection, induction and probationary review of staff within the team and assist the SLT and SMT in the recruitment, selection and induction of other team members as required. Identification of the staff development and training needs of staff within an agreed framework, ensuring appropriate arrangements are in place for these needs to be met. Develop an understanding of relevant competency frameworks to ensure the on-going professional development of staff and to undertake individual PDRs for staff within the team.

You will ensure that appropriate management systems and procedures are in place to meet your health and safety duties and responsibilities contained within the University’s health and safety policy. You are responsible for applying the University’s Equal Opportunities Policy in your own area of responsibility and in your general conduct. You have a responsibility to promote high levels of customer care within your own areas of work. You are expected to lead on the PDR process for EFCD, engaging in the setting of objectives in order to assist in the monitoring of performance and the development of the individual. Such other relevant duties commensurate with the grade of the post as may be assigned by the Manager in agreement with you. Such agreement should not be unreasonably withheld. This could include acting as a DSE Assessor, First Aider, Fire Marshall or Departmental Safety Co-ordinator.
