Student experience
Our support structures, learning environment and academic culture are designed and driven by our ambition to provide a higher education experience in which our students can thrive and succeed. Our outstanding and inspiring buildings, state-of-the-art facilities and first-class student support package enable us to offer an unrivalled experience to students. We are now one of the most popular choices of university in the UK. More than 60,000 students applied for an undergraduate course for 2016/17 entry, the second highest figure for any higher education institution in the UK. Our academic programmes are underpinned by a commitment to widening participation, ensuring students of all backgrounds have access to higher education and are given the skills and motivation to engage with all aspects of university life. Through our First Generation campaign, we are reaching out to the brightest young people from disadvantaged backgrounds, helping them into university and encouraging them to thrive by providing financial and professional support during and after their studies. Opportunities for all students As well as being sector-leading for degree apprenticeships, we work closely with more than 70 professional bodies and associations to accredit our courses and develop professional pathways. As a result, we offer access to one of the widest choices of career options of any UK university. During their time with us, many students take full advantage of valuable work experience and other work-based learning opportunities arranged with local and national employers. The fact that 93% of our graduates were in work and/or further study six months after graduation is testament to the quality of this unique training ground. Employable graduates
