[431] The Historical Student Experience at MSU 16 Participants Explore life at Michigan State University through historical photographs and documents. Use your history detective skills to discover what students did for fun, the rules they were expected to follow and what it was like to live in the dormitories. Join the university archivists, who care for over 165 years of MSU history, for this interactive class.

Guess an animal based off of a special adaption it’s made to thrive inside the environment that it lives in. After the guessing, there will be a brief discussion regarding the animal in question so participants can learn even more about the amazing adaptations around us.

[433] Transforming Grass to Gas 24 Participants

See interesting and exciting physics demonstrations about the most important physical laws governing our world. [427] Sled Dog School 20 Participants Learn about the world of sled dogs as we head to Sled Dog School. [428] Spartan Nursing 101: Simulation, Stethoscopes and Syringe Water Fights! 30 Participants Experience being a Spartan Nurse in the simulation lab and learn how to take vital signs, listen to lung sounds and insert a NG tube. Race against participants in a scavenger hunt of the lab, meeting some of our skills task trainers including Trach Jake, Surgical Sally, Chester Chest and of course, our favorite “patient,” HAL — a simulation manikin that breathes, blinks and even talks as you provide nursing care! Learn fast, or you might be the most unfortunate victim of the syringe water fight! These are just a few of the activities you may experience while working as a spartan nurse-in-training in an environment that looks and feels like a hospital! [429] Sparty On! Photo Editing with Free Online Tools 30 Participants Learn how to use web-based apps to edit, retouch and combine images. We’ll create a Spartan-themed collage and talk about careers that use these types of tools.

Did you know that the plants growing in the prairies and forests around us can be used to make the fuels and products we use every day? Join us to meet MSU scientists researching how we can use the superpowers of microbes to transform grass into gas. Interactive and hands-on activities will allow you to uncover for yourself some of the mysteries that remain to be solved as we create a more sustainable future. [434] Traveling Technology Free 25 Participants Have you ever wondered how people traveled without GPS? Do you think you could find your way around using just a map? In this class you will learn how to read an Atlas, reach destinations using maps, use tools to plan a road trip and receive take-home material to use on your next adventure. [435] Veterinary Nursing — A Bandaging Lab 30 Participants Work through a case where a veterinary patient experiences a broken leg. We will discuss findings and patient care from the veterinary nurses perspective. We’ll bandage the legs of stuffed puppies demonstrating the bandage techniques required by surgery.

In an escape room format, students will explore disability, impacts of disability and common barriers in society, and engage with an experience of what it means to navigate our society with a disability.
