[224] Journal Making with the Writing Center @ MSU 15 Participants Create your own creative journal to write your story in! During the class sessions, participants will be provided with a journal of their choice and decorating materials (i.e. markers, stickers, scrapbooking material, scissors, glue, etc.) to construct their journal. The Writing Center will also provide various prompts to include in the journals to think, reflect and write about.

You have seen him at athletic events, in parades, around campus on game day, in ESPN commercials, at weddings, birthday parties, alumni club events and promoting literacy to children in schools. He is everywhere; he is loved and he is an embodiment of what it means to be a Michigan State Spartan. Have you ever wondered how our beloved Sparty became the MSU icon he is today? In this session you will learn the origins of Sparty, the Sparty Mascot Program and get a rare inside look at what it is like to portray Sparty. There are many exciting aspects of the program that most Spartans do not have the opportunity to witness. Join us for an in-depth look of Sparty, the gentle giant. [220] Humor and Laughter: Always the Best Medicine at Any Age! 30 Participants Genuine and spontaneous humor and laughter are the best ways to promote self-care every day! But, what are the positive health effects of humor and laughter on the mind-body-spirit? This fun, interactive class will brighten your day, cause you to smile and be a foundation for bringing joy and laughter in your life every day!

[225] Microbe Art 101 20 Participants

Explore the field of colorful microbes by delving into agar art, learning about synthetic pigments that bacteria have been engineered to produce and naturally colored microbes. This class will have everyone using microscopes to see some colorful samples first-hand and then designing agar art for themselves.

[226] Microscope Guessing Game 15 Participants

How does Velcro work? Are all cell phone screens the same? Why does cat hair stick to everything? Use optical and scanning electron microscopes to answer these questions and many more.

Explore the world of archery with the opportunity for novice and advanced shooters to shoot both recurve and compound archery equipment. The class will include primarily spot target shooting indoors, however, we have the facility to shoot outdoors and allow participants to try out state-of- the-art video archery system (TechnoHunt 400). [223] Intro to Theatrical Costumes and Construction 16 Participants Explore what it takes to make theatrical costumes. This class will be very “hands-on.” Learn a few basic sewing skills and come away with a small tote bag that you sew yourself.

Guess an animal based off of a special adaption it’s made to thrive inside the environment that it lives in. After the guessing, there will be a brief discussion regarding the animal in question so participants can learn even more about the amazing adaptations around us.

Get ready to move! Join us for a dynamic blend between the martial arts and anatomical sciences. Basic kicking and punching techniques set the scene for discussing a variety of anatomical topics, including the cardiovascular, respiratory and nervous systems. Show off your newly gained skills by breaking a real wood board! [229] Pickleball 24 Participants Learn the basics of pickleball in an active, fun atmosphere.
