The University of Iowa has a long, distinguished, and colorful history. University archivist David McCartney will recount stories that have shaped UI’s development and discuss the archive's efforts to preserve the University records. Added bonus: We’ll show a 10-minute film released in 1944, and recently restored, celebrating the life of Nile Kinnick. David McCartney, C.A., is the University of Iowa archivist, a position he has held since 2001. A native of Charles City, he has master's degrees in history and library science from the University of Maryland at College Park and a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Marianne Reha-Van Roekel will demonstrate how to create the perfect container garden while sharing other helpful gardening tips. Cost per person is $25 (payable at the event), which covers all the supplies needed to make your own 12-inch planter. Planters will be taken home at the end of the class. Considered part of the “short game” in golf, putting and chipping don’t require a big swing or great strength. In fact, anyone can become proficient in what is considered one of the easiest swings to learn.
