Meet the Archivist: Glimpses of UI History Hills Bank in Coralville, lower level (1009 2nd St) Thursday, April 19, 10:00 a.m.

The University of Iowa has a long, distinguished, and colorful history. University archivist David McCartney will recount stories that have shaped UI’s development and discuss the archive's efforts to preserve the University records. Added bonus: We’ll show a 10-minute film released in 1944, and recently restored, celebrating the life of Nile Kinnick. David McCartney, C.A., is the University of Iowa archivist, a position he has held since 2001. A native of Charles City, he has master's degrees in history and library science from the University of Maryland at College Park and a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Container Gardening Reha Greenhouses (1160 Hwy 22, Wellman) Monday, April 23 or Tuesday, April 24, 10:00 a.m.

Marianne Reha-Van Roekel will demonstrate how to create the perfect container garden while sharing other helpful gardening tips. Cost per person is $25 (payable at the event), which covers all the supplies needed to make your own 12-inch planter. Planters will be taken home at the end of the class. If Your Golf Skills are Green… Pleasant Valley Golf Course (4390 Sand road SE, Iowa City) Wednesday, May 2, 9:00 a.m. …then take the first step to improve your skills by joining PGA Professional Tom Hein for a putting and chipping lesson at Pleasant Valley Golf Course. Considered part of the “short game” in golf, putting and chipping don’t require a big swing or great strength. In fact, anyone can become proficient in what is considered one of the easiest swings to learn. Practice the short game basics in a hands-on setting, and experience how fun and approachable the sport of golf can be. Space is limited to 12 participants.
