THE RACING PIGEON 19 APRIL 2024

15

President. My friend and great informant over the years was the Fed Secretary John Wilkie, with him stepping down due to ill health, a very long time friend of mine Tom Ridley is now in the hot seat, and he along with Kyle are now going to keep me informed, thank you lads. Back to the result, and the winner timed on a 2468ypm velocity is quite some pigeon, for this is win number four for her, and those four wins have given her 3x1st Fed and a 2nd Fed, quite some pigeon indeed. The Jarrow AHS winner went to the Glen Scurfield loft, a blue pied cock on 2422ypm getting him 19 points in the Fed, only the first timer counts for points. After MB and K at 3rd & 4th we have another JAHS loft at 5th, this being the good loft of Stewart & Walton, very rare these lads miss the Fed sheet. We then have the new Fed Secretary at 4th & 5th BHS, 6th & 7th Fed, these are through the Hammond & Whitaker loft, bought when this top partnership packed in. John Walker & Partners are at 8th Fed with a BHS timer, and the MB and K loft ended a highly satis- factory day with the 9th & 10th Fed pigeons, and the Hebburn winner I & D Nelson. Section 1 was first away on this day, the biggest section in the UNC saw them away at 9.15am at Wetherby, with distance at the very top of the UNC radius with the Border Fed being about the 130 miles mark. The Coquetdale Fed is the second longest flying Fed in the UNC, and they are part of Section 1, members of this Fed fly from about the 95 miles and all the way up to the loft of Adam Nichol, who is farthest flying loft in this Fed. Adam got two 2yo’s together to take 1st & 2nd Alnwick HS and 1st & 2nd Fed on 2348 & 2336, flying 114 miles in 85 minutes, phew! The Amble HS winner arrived to the S James loft to take 3rd Fed, and at Alnmouth HS Malcolm Straughan got two sharpish ones to take

Hardwick HS for 7th Fed, CHB & Sons in again at 8th & 9th Fed, with the Eaglescliffe HS winner Starkey & Sons 10th Fed. Thornaby winner at 12th Fed is last years top loft of Binks & White. Right, I have two results from Wetherby, one being the Section 2 result that John Cockcroft puts together, and one from Simon Cassidy, the North East Counties result. For my convenience, and my convenience alone I’m going to send them down as they arrived to me. I’ll tell you this, I’ve had all sorts of computer trouble since late February/early March, hacked and I’d lost a lot of information, emails in particular lost and for a time I couldn’t send or even receive emails, I was goosed for the best part of a fortnight until Maj sorted it for me, Teesside Tek, he’s really good, but even this morning, 8am, April 12th, this article was half written, and then that somehow went down the pan, and all had to be rewritten again, so Editors, two results please as sent to me, thank you. The NEC result has some class acts up there at and near the top, the three top lofts especially are long established ‘class acts’ and if the ring number of the winner is correct, and not a old ring on a younger pigeon, well JR, come on tell me about it for it will have plenty of previous, that’s for sure. Right, tomorrow as I write, 13th, all looks good for those heading north firms. The UNC are all at Newark Show Ground, as Worksop will after the recent heavy rain (yet again!) will be like a bog, so its Newark. The GYA are at Grantham, first race for me, 112 miles or so with them, or just over 100 miles with The UNC, nothing much between them so? I’ve got them in good order, had just the four 24 miles tosses, so lets see shall we? Fingers cross all is well and we all get good returns. BP

1st & 2nd there, 4th & 5th Fed. The previous 1st UNC winning loft of Jim Brown wins Shilbottle HS for 6th Fed, then its back to Alnmouth to find club Secretary Trevor Shell at 3rd & 4th Club, 7th & 8th Fed. It’s two Chevington Drift HS arrivals at 9th & 10th Fed, Wilson & Gilliard and then K Moore. Looking further down the top 20 or so sheet, 897 birds sent, I see Richard Murphy with three together with Alnwick HS. Dad Billy is now in partnership with John Mallan to fly YB’s just along the allotment path from Richard, so I believe that's how the 2024 season will be flown, and next season all together I would think?

The Tees Valley Fed were at Selby, same time, and Gary R has just sent me the Federation result, so hopefully just have time to squeeze it in. There was a 39/974 send, which were led home by two Stockton WEHS arrivals. Flying to two different allotment sites, Cuthbert & Hobson just got the nod with a yearling chequer pied hen on 2343 to win both club and Fed, with Bousfield & Sons on 2325 not that far behind with two for 2nd & 3rd Club and Fed, only three seconds between them, with the winners back for more at 4th. Brian ‘Cobby’ Carberry won Portrack HS for 5th Fed, McKinlay & Stewart close up 2nd Club, 6th Fed. The long time good loft of the Moore Bros win
