GOVORI / SPEAKING…

September is a month that already carries the scents of autumn, though it isn’t too late to swim in the sea. Which destination would be your first choice? “My first choice would be Tenerife. That’s precisely why September is, for me, one of the most beautiful months to travel – it’s still summer, the sea is warm, while the crowds are slowly easing. Tenerife is particularly interesting to me be- cause it’s a destination where you can combine almost everything: the sea and beaches, volcanic landscapes, nature, good cuisine and a completely different atmosphere than what we’re used to in Europe. It’s especially interesting becau- se Tenerife is also part of our network as of this year. That’s why I would say that it’s a very nice example of how you can extend the summer with one flight at a ti- me when we're already starting to think about autumn at home.” This is also the season of ripening grapes and winemaking. Do you have a recommendation when it comes to wine tourism – as we fly to many regions that are famous for wine... “If I had to choose one destination, I’d opt for Porto, or rather the Douro Valley. I think the harvest period is what gives wine tourism its special charm – at that time you aren’t only looking at the finished product, but you can familiarise yourself with the entire production process and the tradition behind it. The Do- uro Valley is particularly fascinating because of its sprawling vineyards on terra- ces carved out above the river, and September is when the whole region lives in the rhythm of the grape harvest. After summer, this is a completely different way to experience Portugal – through the landscape, traditions, gastronomy and sto- ries of the people who’ve been preserving the wine culture of this region for ge- nerations. And perhaps that’s the most beautiful thing about travelling – when you don’t just bring photos back from your destination, but also a story that you’ll long remember.” Why did you choose to fly ATR planes in particular? “To be honest, the answer to this question begins long before I sat in an ATR pilot’s seat. I dreamt of becoming a pilot when I was just a boy, and I was very luc- ky to realise that dream, with the support of my family. That’s why it’s particularly precious to me that I’m exactly where I am today, and that I have the opportuni- ty to fly ATR planes. This is a type of aircraft that requires precision from the pilot, a good feel for the aircraft, discipline and constant concentration. It’s because of this that I find it both challenging and interesting. I’ve always loved that “struggle” with myself to be better than I was yesterday. That’s why, for me, the ATR isn’t just an aeroplane that I fly. It is part of the journey through which I realised my boyho- od dream. And every time I sit in the pilot’s seat, I’m honestly happy to be able to say that I’m living what I once only dreamt about.”
