T he legend of Robin Hood has changed its face over the centuries, but has nev- er lost that which is most important: the story of people trying to preserve their dignity in a world that’s becoming increasingly cruel. The latest television adaptation, in which the main role is played by Aus- tralian actor Jack Patten, has returned to that tale. The story begins when Rob, the son of a Saxon forester, witnesses Norman invaders stealing everything his people have built. Marian, despite being born into the Norman nobility, sees the cruelty of her class. When their worlds collide, love overcomes all differ-
ences and they jointly wage a guerilla war against the kingdom. With the first season having already won over audiences, filming for the sec- ond season is currently in full swing at various locations throughout Serbia. The series’ creator and director, Jona- than English, emphasised the impor- tance of the Serbian film industry and the team behind the project. As he stat- ed, Serbia has modern studios, experi- enced film professionals and world-class production capacities. “The new season is being filmed using a combination of studio and natural locations, including Fruška Gora and Košutnjak for the for- est scenes, as well as areas around Rud-
nik and Gornji Milanovac, where large sets evoking 12 th century England have previously been erected,” said English. Famous actor Sean Bean, who plays the Sheriff of Nottingham in the show, has also returned to Serbia and says that he enjoys the country and loves the fact that he has returned to shoot the sec- ond season. Known to younger audiences for his energetic and physically demand- ing roles, Patten brings a different tone to Robin Hood, with much more in- ternal tension, emotion and humani- ty.
