the real and deadly dangers and mor- al dilemmas that come with the daily life of a secret agent. It’s a raw, realis- tic drama with lots of action and psy- chological tension. The espionage genre often requires lots of physical fitness, but also emotional gravitas. - Preparations for the role were ex- tremely intense, both physically and mentally. I had serious training with stuntmen, learned tactical movements and how to handle weapons, and even the basics of martial arts that are used by real agents. However, what was even more fascinating to me was the psycho- logical preparation. I spoke with people who actually worked in the intelligence services. Living under a false identi- ty – where you lie constantly, even to those you love in order to protect them – takes a huge toll on the psyche. I tried to translate that kind of inner heav- iness and loneliness into my charac- ter. The set was very serious, but the crew was wonderful, so we managed to maintain positive energy off camera. The action of the series leads us around different parts of the world. Did filming involve actual international locations? - Absolutely! Spy stories simply don‘t work in the confines of a studio.
We were fortunate enough to shoot in several beautiful and authentic lo- cations in Europe and North Ameri- ca. When you film on the real streets of historical cities, the architecture and the atmosphere of the place become an additional character in the series. For me personally, that was one of the most beautiful aspects of this project. Given that we’re talking for a magazine that’s read by travellers at altitudes of 30,000 feet, we have to ask you what you’re like as a traveller? - That depends to a large extent on the moment in which I find my- self. When I finish a grueling shoot that lasts for months, my ideal hol- iday is one of complete relaxation – somewhere by the ocean, with a good book, silence and no plans whatsoev- er. On the other hand, when I trav- el with family or friends, I love explor- ing. I’m fascinated by places that have a rich history, old architecture and, of course, good local food. Travelling is the best way for me to “reset” and re- turn to reality outside the Hollywood bubble. Travels broaden our horizons and remind us how big and diverse the world really is. How do you spend your time on lengthy flights?
- I have to admit that, over time, I’ve become a proper flying profession- al (laughs). Long flights are actually one of the few times that I’m completely un- available on my phone and social media, and I really enjoy that. I utilise that time to read new scripts, but very often al- so to catch up on movies and series that I didn’t get to watch on the ground. Of course, sleeping well on a plane is key, especially when you’re changing time zones, so I always try to get a few hours of quality rest in order to arrive at my destination ready for work or pleasure. Have you ever had an opportunity to visit our country? - Unfortunately, I still haven’t had the opportunity to personally visit Ser- bia and the Balkans, but it’s definitely high on my wish list for future trips. I’ve heard so many wonderful things from colleagues who’ve filmed there. All of them, without exception, praise the in- credible hospitality of the people, the rich cultural history, the fantastic night- life in Belgrade and the phenomenal food. I know I have a large and loyal fan base out there, who’ve been following Lucifer, and I’m very happy that they’ll be among the first to have the opportu- nity to watch the series CIA. I hope that I will soon have a real reason to board one of the flights and see all those beau- tiful stories for myself.
