Muzika iz „Metropolitena“ Music from the Met

E very visit to the Metropolitan Museum is a les- son in art history, but September’s exhibition cal- endar on Fifth Avenue brings installations that directly fuse sound, movement and contempo- rary visual art. Until 27 th September, the exhibi- tion Musical Bodies, representing the first major interdisci- plinary study in the history of this museum, dedicated to the inextricable links between the human body and musical in- struments, runs in this museum’s central galleries. The exhibition gathers around 130 rare exhibits from all over the world, from ancient Egyptian percussion rattles and instruments from the Renaissance era, to contemporary sculp- tures that explore acoustics and anatomy. The exhibition treats instruments not only as objects of applied art, but as exten- sions of the human voice and movement, offering visitors a multisensory experience that redefines the way we view visual and sonic arts. Apart from this exhibition, the Metropoli- tan will also gain a new exterior as of 17 th September. A mon- umental installation by renowned Chinese artist Liu Wei (as part of the Genesis Facade Commission) opens on the façade niches of the Fifth Avenue museum, marking the artist’s first major independent project for an American institution. For all those landing in New York in September, a trip to the Met offers the perfect combination of a classic museum expe- rience and bold contemporary conceptual projects. After visit- ing the galleries, tradition dictates that patrons head to the mu- seum’s roof terrace (The Roof Garden), which provides one of the most beautiful views of Central Park and the Manhattan skyline.
