84th Grand Chapter Meeting Edition (Summer Issue)

Q&A WITH IHQ STAFF

Q: What do you like most about your service with Kappa Alpha Psi? A: I love the Fraternity and always have since my college days at Cheyney State. I love the ideals of the Fraternity and the community service that is pro- vided. I love attending the Conclaves where I get to see thousands of African American men in a very positive light. I see the Fraternity as a type of “Ark” and a “salvation” paradigm shift for many, that without it they would be lost in a society that cares very little to nothing for them. Q: How do you ensure each mem- ber of Kappa Alpha Psi receives the best customer service possible from you? A: No matter on any given day I give my best in service. We all have good days and some not so good, but I put the not so good days aside when I arrive, show up with a smile, and to be a bless- ing to the members and its constituents. Hobbies: Walking and exploring and making new discoveries right here in my home city; and Reading. I plan to develop new hobbies such as visiting old Catholic Churches here in the city, and Photography. Favorite Book: Zora’s “Their Eyes Were Watching God” & “Jonah’s Gourd Vine” and anything written by J. California Cooper (my favorite books). Favorite Quote: ‘The Unexamined Life is Not Worth Living” (Plato) and “The Examined Life is Painful” (Malcolm X). Q: Considering the 84 th Grand Chapter Meeting will be in Philadelphia in 2019, what must-see or must-do tip would you give to the brothers and their families while they are here? A: Outside of IHQ, they must visit Mother Bethel AME Church, 6th & Lombard Streets. It is the oldest contin- uously owned piece of land by African Americans in the United States. It is the Mother Church of African Method- ism, started by Richard Allen, 1816. The Philadelphia Zoo is also the oldest zoo in America (34th & Girard Avenue).

Q: How do you ensure each mem- ber of kappa alpha psi receives the best customer service possible from you? A: The key to good customer service for me is building good relationships with the membership. Thanking the membership and promoting a positive, helpful and friendly environment will ensure they leave with a great impres- sion. A happy and excited brother will return often and is likely help the frater- nity more.

Q: What do you like most about your service with Kappa Alpha Psi? A: The opportunity to be involved on such a high level and actually see the fruits of our labor spread through the membership of the bond. It is so many working parts to making this organiza- tion run and being one of those integral parts is a great responsibility and honor. Q: How do you ensure each mem- ber of Kappa Alpha Psi receives the best customer service possible from you? A: I ensure the best customer service by trying my best to have the answer to a brothers question and not just meeting the expectation but exceeding it. Hobbies: My hobbies include line dancing, interior design, traveling and collecting refrigerator magnets. Favorite Quote: “Success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life as by the obstacles which he has overcome while trying to succeed.”- Booker T. Washing- ton. Q: Considering the 84 th Grand Chapter Meeting will be in Philadelphia in 2019, what must-see or must-do tip would you give to the brothers and their families while they are here? A: Being that my city Philadelphia is the birthplace of our nation I would advise that brothers go see where it all began. Independence mall, the liberty bell, Betsy Ross house, the Rocky steps (Philadelphia Museum of Art). FYI: Pat’s and Geno’s do not have the best steaks in Philly. Downtown is filled with places to eat, boutique restaurants on every corner. Reading Terminal Market is a sight to behold!
