Couple accused of spousal dispute
ARussell couple was recently chargedwith spousal assault by the Russell County On- tario Provincial Police (OPP) following a dispute. Theman was also charged with domestic mischief and overcoming resistance. Police have withheld their names. This was one of 21 different domestic dispute incidents that occurred over the last three weeks in Russell County. In total, dur- ing this period, the local OPP responded to over 500 calls relating to theft, drug offences, and several impaired-related incidents were also laid. Driving under the influence Police received a report of a suspicious man operating a motor vehicle in Embrun on Thursday, January 14. Constable Anne- Christine Gauthier arrested themale driver who failed to pass a roadside alcohol screen- ing test. Michel Burelle, aged 58, was charged with driving while having a blood-alcohol level over 80 milligrams. On Sunday, January 17, Provincial Con- stable Luc Turgeonwas dispatched to a fail to remain accident in Russell.The suspect and suspect vehicle was located by Sergeant René Cadieux.The driver, Robert John Cole, aged 42, of Ottawa, was charged with impaired driving by drug, resist arrest and theft under $5000. He was charged for driving while under suspension and fail to remain . Cole was also served an offence notice for driving amotor vehicle with liquor readily available. OnMonday, January 18, Constable Sean Byrne was on general patrol when he came upon a vehicle stuck in the snow. As the vehicle was finally pushed out of the ditch, the officer detected an odour of alcohol. Following breath tests at the detachment, Mary AnnMcNulty, aged 49, of Russell, was charged with impaired driving and driving with over 80 mgs of alcohol. On Saturday, January 23, OPP received a report of a swerving vehicle onHighway 417. Constable Karim Davis located the vehicle in the ditch. The driver refused to provide a sample of his breath, as requested by the officer. Bun Koeurt Nay, aged 40, of Cassel- man, was charged with Refuse to Provide a Sample. Speeding violations OPP officers in the area have arrested
three men on different speeding related traffic violations in the past two weeks. A 25-year-old man from Ottawa was ar- rested and charged on January 5 for going 164 km/h in the 100km/h zone onHighway 417. A 57-year-old man fromMontreal was arrested by Constable Mike Cunning on Highway 417 on January 14 for driving 158
km/h in the posted 100 km/h zone. On Janu- ary 15, Constable Luc Lecuyer arrested and charged a 47-year-oldman fromRussell for doing 144 km/h in a posted 90 km/h zone. All threemen had their vehicle impound- ed for a period of seven days, as well as their driver’s license suspended.

Des billets d›hockey pour la sai- son régulière seront aussi parmi les prix disponibles. Les Anciens Sénateurs, formés en 1992, contribuent depuis longtemps à aider les organisations de hockey mineur de la ré- gion d›Ottawa-Gatineau en participant à plusieurs événements communautaires. Leurs contributions incluent l›organisation de tournois de hockey et de tournois de golf dans le but d›amasser des fonds pour le hockey mineur ainsi que pour des orga- nisations caritatives. Cette équipe est formée de 45 joueurs d›hockey professionnel dont plusieurs anciens joueurs des Sénateurs d›Ottawa tels Todd White, Shaun Van Allen et Laurie Boschman, premier capitaine des Séna- teurs. Ce sera au tour de Casselman, la fin de semaine prochaine, d›accueillir les Anciens Sénateurs. Another PA Day on the calendar The Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario (CDSBEO) has updated its 2015-2016 term calendar with students getting an extra free day during the school year while their teachers are involved in professional training workshop opportunities. The CDSBEO term calendar’s Professional Activities Days (PA) schedule is increased from two to three now. The change meets recent contract settlements between the provincial government and four provincial teachers federations. The addition to the PA schedule on the calendar is April 15. – Gregg Chamberlain
