THE K I N G ' S BUS I NE S S
I. BY OBEDIENCE. Just as a servant must be obedient to his master, and a child to his par ents, so the child of God must obey the commands of his Lord! No one can live a life of helpfulness to others without obeying the commands: “ go ye” (Mk. 16:15), “pray ye” (Matt. 9:38), and “freely ye have received, freely give” (Matt. 10:8). The Lord continues to say as He did in 1 Samuel 15:22: “Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice.” II. BY THOUGHTFULNESS., We ican not help but be reminded of the thoughtfulness toward others in the life of our Lord as He lived among men who despised and hated Him. If we are thoughtful of those about us, we will carry their needs to the Lord in prayer that His sufficiency may be theirs. “And let us consider one an other to provoke unto love and to good God does not use the proud or haughty to comfort or help others. It is His plan to work through one'who is humble and willing to be a chan nel. “But whosoever shall be great among you, let him he your nfinister; and whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant” (Matt. 20:26, 27). “ Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble” /(I Pet. 5:5).' IV. BY EARNESTNESS. The. world has a right‘ to look for earnest, sincere Christians. It is often our earnestness that interests the un saved person in the Christian life, and surely we cannot be earnest in our daily living and neglect those about us. We are commanded tq, “earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints” (Jude 3). V. BY RADIANCE. Those about us ar£ blessed and helped when they see ,the Lord Jesus Christ manifested in our lives. It is God’s will that we “shine” and re flect His glory in this old dark world of sin. “They looked unto him and were lightened [radiant]: and their faces were not ashamed” . (Psa. 34:5). VI. BY SACRIFICE. This means that there is a price to pay! Self must be put away. Personal desires, ambitions, and motives must be sacrificed in order that thofee about us may come to know the Lord Jesus. Paul, the old warrior of the cross, shows his care for others by being willing to pay the price of self-sacri fice’ that he might win some to Christ. “To the weak became I as weak, that I might gain the weak: I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some” (1 Cor. 9:22). works” (Heb. 10:24). III. BY HUMILITY.

tions, speaking With others about the Lord, teaching a Sunday-school class, taking part in Christian Endeavor and church work, and. witnessing at home to the family. IV. GIVE THE GOSPEL TO FOREIGN FIELDS. 1. Because'we are debtors (Rom. , 1:14-17). 2. Because of God’s command (Isa. 6:1-9). Note three words: "Woe" (as we see ourselves in comparison with the Lord), "Lo" (what the Lord does for us), and "Go" (God’s command). We are to be .ready to do His will, and go wherever He would send us with the message. JULY 25, 1943 THE CHRISTIAN CAR E S ' FOR OTHERS 1 C orinthians 9:22; M atthew 20:26,28 By Evelyn Reeves Introduction General Booth, the great leader of the Salvation Army, in ‘ sending a Christmas message to his workers all over the world, once sent the one sig* nificant word “OTHERS.” Perhaps never before in the history of mankind has the thought for others been so neglected or needed as it is today. We can well be reminded of our Lord’s care for others when we remember that He willingly left heav en’s glories and came into a sin-sick, needy world. “Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ran« som for many” (Matt. 20:28).
