AU-AGA Virtual Accelerator
The African Union - African Governance Architecture (AGA) organized a Youth Innovation Challenge calling for African innovators, incubation centres and innovation hubs with initiatives that contribute to democracy and good governance. Innovators across Africa and the diaspora responded with a total of 20 shortlisted innovators, who then received support through a one-week virtual accelerator training powered by AfriLabs. This program like our other capacity-building programs at AfriLabs aimed to grow the participating innovators and their innovations. It was implemented under the AGA - COMESA joint project on youth engagement in democratic governance and sociology economic development processes in Africa in support of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC). The virtual accelerator held from the 23rd - 27th November 2020, facilitated by experts who impacted crucial industry, technical and business knowledge through intensive training sessions on; Democracy, Public Policy and Social Change, Building Innovation Driven Business Models, Business Management & Strategic Planning, Financial Management, Marketing and Customer Acquisition, Business & Digital Communication, and Investment Readiness & Building Partnerships. We had daily coach check-ins with innovators, an inspirational talk session by top industry professionals, a pitch day, and then a follow-on coaching session. At the end of the program, the top 5 innovators were selected for recognition and awards. The selection was based on different evaluations carried out pre, during and post the program.
