HI STRANGER was runner-up here last time out and the rise in trip suits. ALBURQ was held up last start and can improve. BARBIE’S FOX had no luck second up. BAGOT’S COWSHED Richard Cooper Bagot, surveyor and engineer, oversaw the building of the great 1873 Grandstand, affectionately nicknamed in Australian larrikin style as ‘Bagot’s Cowshed’ because of its long, low profile. For its time it was magnificent, intentionally designed to avoid blocking the view from the Hill enclosure behind. (This is depicted in the covering story in the photograph titled Spring Meeting of the VRC 1877. Source: Illustrated Australian News) This stand – demolished in the 1950s – occupied the area in front of the winning post, the footprint of today’s Lawn Stand.
