(I John 2:12, Rev. 1:5). Romans 5 :1 reminds us that this gift of eter nal life gives us peace with God, while Romans 8:1 tells us that we'll not be condemned. To have peace of mind is to have rest. You can’t have this until your account with God is in good order. The second symbol of the yoke is service. It speaks of a day-by-day responsibility in the Christian life. Housewives are used at home with their children, husbands, and neigh bors. Husbands are used at work and in various organizations. We need to share the Saviour for we are the only Christian somebody knows. We are to confront people with the mes sage of the cross. There needs to be steady “pulling.” The yoke reminds us of consistency. The most wonderful part of this is that Christ places Himself beside us in our work for Him. He pulls with us. He’s the real power that makes serving Him possible. Ours is the responsibility of being available as a ready and willing instrument under His power. If you have not received Christ by faith as your per sonal Saviour, this is the first and all-important step. Any other way will bring nothing but discourage ment and frustration. Very soon there would be little or no interest. We trust you may see that Christ will bring peace and rest, as well as eternal life and the forgiveness of sins. Lord, give me not just words to say, Though I need right words, too: But grace to live in such a way My life will make my words come true. Too many lives are like an oven — always heating but never cooking any thing. Where God’s finger points, there God’s hand will make the way. Some people’s minds are like con crete, all mixed up and permanently set.

YIELDING TO THE YOKE

by Dennis Olson, student at Biola College

O ne of the most encouraging in v ita tio n s of S c rip tu re are Christ’s words, “Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light” (Matt. 11:29, 30). A yoke is a farm imple ment, which is placed over the backs of animals of burden. The rein comes down around the neck and hooks up to the wooden bar fitting over the back. This enables, for example, two oxen to be placed side-by-side, keep ing them in place. The first symbol we see is surrender. It’s sad to see those who are trying to be Christians without really receiving the Lord Jesus Christ as personal Saviour. This is absolutely impossible. Christ presents His yoke, but you must take it willingly. Only then will you be able to serve Him. What a comforting idea it is to find rest! Wealth doesn’t buy it, so cial standing can’t secure it, family background will never avail! Only by receiving Jesus Christ can we find real rest for our souls. This means peace, having guilt removed 20
