En boisson sur la 17 En fin d’après-midi le 16 janvier, une auto-patrouille de la Police provinciale de l’Ontario (PPO) a intercepté un véhicule sur le chemin de comté 17 à Plantagenet. Après avoir interrogé le conducteur, la policière avait des soupçons quant au taux d’alcoolémie de ce dernier. Jonathan Cameron, 29 ans, de Plantagenet, a été arrêté pour avoir conduit son véhicule avec un taux au-dessus de la limite permise et la PPO a saisi son véhicule pour une semaine et suspendu son permis de conduire pour trois mois. Il doit passer devant le juge aujourd’hui, à la Cour de L’Orignal. – Stéphane Lajoie Temporary layoffs at Bentley’s With so many layoffs at Jean Coutu, some people are concerned about layoffs elsewhere. John Gunn from Bentley’s said there had been some temporary layoffs, but those employees will be back to work soon. “There are peaks and valleys in any business,” explained Gunn. “My busiest store will have five employees on a Saturday, but only two on a Monday. This is the Monday of the distribution business. As soon as my peak shipping season comes around, we will hire them all back.” Gunn said the employees that have been laid off should be back to work within the next week or two. – Diane Hunter
Caught in the act On January 23, Hawkesbury OPP was called to the LCBO store on Main Street East in Hawkesbury where Jean-Rene St-Amour, age 33, was seen shoplifting three 60-ounce bottles of liquor. He was identified by police from the surveillance tape and was later arrested when appearing in L’Orignal court for an unrelated matter. St-Amour, from L’Orignal, was charged with Theft Under $5,000. On January 25, Hawkesbury OPP was called to Spence Avenue where a suspicious man was pushing a wheelbarrow containing four propane tanks. Maxime Plouffe-Villeneuve, age 20, from the Nation Municipality had been trespassing on several properties on Spence Avenue, stealing the wheelbarrow and tanks from backyards. Plouffe-Villeneuve was arrested and charged with two counts of Theft Under $5,000. Plouffe-Villeneuve was later released and scheduled to appear in L’Orignal court on February 24.
