2 November 2011 The TUC will argue when it meets the Low Pay Commission on Tuesday (1 November) that it should recommend raising the adult national minimum wage (NMW) next year by more than the rate of inflation. The LPC, which advises the government on the NMW, is currently considering the rates for the period from October 2012 to September 2013. Read more from the TUC 20 March 2012 The government have accepted the Low Pay Commission’s recommendations on rates for the National Minimum Wage (NMW) from October 2012. From 1 October 2012: · the adult minimum wage rate will increase from £6.08 to £6.19 an hour · the Youth Development Rate (18-20) will remain at £4.98 an hour · the 16-17 year old rate will remain at £3.68 an hour · the apprentice rate will increase from £2.60 to £2.65 an hour The Commission’s report covers this year’s upratings and amongst other matters it recommends the simplification of the operation of the NMW and also improvements to guidance as there are concerns over the quality and availability of NMW guidance. Summary of PAYE regulations that came into effect 6 April 2011

6 April 2011 HMRC has published a summary of the changes to the PAYE regulations which come into effect on 6 April 2011. From 6 April 2011 the PAYE Regulations are changing to: · allow confirmation of an amended tax code to be given to an individual, with their approval, over the phone instead of sending out a paper notice · correct an error with the definition of ‘specified date’ in PAYE Regulation 198A · change the tax code employers operate in certain circumstances When a new employee doesn’t have a P45 and doesn’t complete a form P46 The P46 is an in-year form used by employers to notify HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) that an employee has started working for them without handing in a form P45.
