HM REVENUE & CUSTOMS BUSINESS RECORD CHECKS

6 February 2012 HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) has announced a fresh approach to its business records checks programme in 2012, following a review. The review, which included discussions of the pilot programme with trade and professional bodies’ representatives, found clear evidence that it is effective in improving record-keeping practices in smaller businesses. However, it recommended that the checks are more

HMRC ALTERNATIVE DISPUTE RESOLUTION TRIAL FOR SMES

22 February 2012 ADR provides customers with an alternative way of resolving tax disputes in compliance checks by using an independent facilitator. This extended trial is now available to Small and Medium Enterprise customers whose business is based in Wales, North West England, South West England and London. ADR covers both VAT and direct taxes disputes, and entering into the ADR process will not affect the customer's existing review and appeal rights. Follow this link for full details from HMRC
