Policy News Journal - 2011-2012

We have recently written to 144,000 new businesses to remind them about the ‘Regional Employer NICs Holiday’ and to encourage eligible businesses to apply for the scheme. It has been brought to our attention that in some instances where we have correctly issued letters to an agent acting on behalf of the employer, we have omitted to provide the employer name. Instead only the ‘Employer PAYE reference’ has been provided. If you have received any of these letters and are having difficulty identifying which employer it relates to, please phone our Employer helpline on 0845 60 70 143. We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused. If you require more information about the NICs holiday go to www.businesslink.gov.uk/nicsholiday . 7 September 2011 Further to the announcement that National Insurance cards are being phased out we have been given an update on the project. As background, the project was set up in October 2010 following a Government announcement to “introduce a new system for distributing National Insurance numbers to people, with the plastic National Insurance number card replaced initially with a letter, saving money for Government and helping to reduce the deficit at a crucial time”. The current plastic NINo card is being replaced with a system produced letter for all customer groups. The change is being introduced in 3 phases: · Phase 1 - Replacement cards (introduced in October 2010) · Phase 2 - New cards to adults (July 2011) · Phase 3 - New cards to juveniles (October 2011) Phases 1 and 2 have already been delivered.
