Over the last decade, we all have been pleasantly surprised by American car maker Ford. Even as some of its competitors struggled to manage their precarious financial situations, Ford turned down government help, sold off some of its assets, and invested in research and development. As a result, the company has come out with some of the most exciting cars and trucks on the market. The upcoming year is going to be full of more surprises. In America Ford has teamed up with its European and Asian counterparts to create some of the most remarkable “international” vehicles available around the world, including the peppy little Fiesta, the highly acclaimed Focus (soon available with a three-cylinder turbocharged engine, the very sporty ST, as well as an electric version), the all-new totally redesigned Fusion, the mighty Taurus (now available with a startlingly powerful four-cylinder EcoBoost engine), and its sporty SHO model. Not to be forgotten is the almighty Mustang, available as a coupe or a convertible with a V-6 or a V-8, including the most powerful V-8 ever produced (662 horsepower), in the Shelby GT 500 version. Remember that Ford also produces some of the most popular light trucks on the market, including an all-new microvan, the C-Max, the mighty Flex CUV, the totally redesigned Escape SUV, the most recent Explorer (now available with a four-cylinder engine), the big- FORD continues to surprise us for 2013

ger Expedition, and the very popular F-150 pick-up. The traditional E-Series (Econoline) is back, but expect it to be replaced by the all-new Transit full-sized version of the already popular compact Connect.

For the last few years, Lincoln, Ford’s high- end brand, has been keeping a low profile. Most of its cars and light trucks have been based on conventional Ford products except for the MKS, Lincoln’s biggest sedan since the legendary Town Car was terminated. The big star of the year at Lincoln will surely be the totally redesigned and completely re-engineered MKZ. In the past, this recog- nizable and interesting sedan was based upon the mid-sized Ford Fusion. The 2013 version of the MKZ continues to be partly based on the Fusion but only in its structure; the body and interior of the all-new MKZ are unique to this high-level car. The 2013 MKZ is powered by a V-6 (the Fusion doesn’t get such a snazzy engine!) or by a powerful 2.0-litre EcoBoost four-cylinder engine. Last year’s hybrid-electric configuration is still in the catalogue of options. Lincoln is still offering its big MKS. Its grille has been changed, and there have been many other improvements made to the big sedan, which is available in an all-wheel drive configuration. Consider the MKS as an SHO version of Lincoln’s big car. If you like SUVs and CUVs, take a look at the very popular MKX, a mid-sized vehicle based on the Ford Edge but sporting its own personality. Then, there is the much bigger MKT, a unique-looking Lincoln that is halfway between a big station wagon and a big luxury sedan. Available with the 3.5-litre EcoBoost V-6 engine, this great-looking car has more to offer than we could ever have imagined. Last but not least, don’t forget the more traditional 4 X 4 Navigator SUV, still available with a powerful V-8 engine capable of pulling big trailers. LINCOLNmakes a spectacular comeback
