The number of rst time buyers who have already become parents has doubled in the last 15 years; a story that resonates with Saranraj , 34, and Bhavani , 27, who were married with a ve-year-old son when they bought their rst home through Shared Ownership. Instead, I threw myself into career development to increase my salary, changing jobs three times in three years.” Bhavani also increased her salary, and budgeted to meet their saving goals. “We made our expenses go further, sacricing travel and holidays,” she says. Saranraj and Bhavani were eventually able to save a 10% deposit towards buying their rst home. “After spending more than £40,000 on rent since we moved to the UK, I was relieved to be investing money in my family’s future,” says Saranraj. The mortgage and rent on their new three bedroom apartment totals £1,800, a £500 saving compared to the two bedroom property they had been renting. Purchasing through Shared Ownership enabled the family to stay in Hayes, which was important for Bhavani’s career, and enabled them to keep things stable for their young son. “For me, the best thing about buying at SO Resi Hayes was being able to upsize while still saving money,” Bhavani says, “My only wish is that I had been able to do it sooner. It’s great to have found a home where our family can settle long-term.”
