REUBEN ARCH ER TORREY

1 0 :3 0 A . *

Born January 28, 1856 "With Christ" October 26, 1928 Dean of the Bible Institute of Los Angeles From 1912 to 1924 D R. TORREY gave twelve of the best years of his life to teaching in the Bible Institute o f Los Angeles. _ The life of R. A. Torrey was like a great river which after traveling for thousands of miles through a vast continent empties at last into the illimitable sea. Yet even then the river is not lost, nor does it cease to maintain its character as a flow ing stream, for the ocean waters for many miles show the color ation of this life-giving current. It is still a river, but now flowing forward through the sea. Thus, in the wondrous grace of God, Dr. Torrey lives today— in his teachings, in his published writings and remembered words, in the lives o f a multitude o f his pupils, and not least, in the very existence of this Bible Institute. These great buildings were, to continue our simile, for a long period the banks of shores over which his words reached the world. But the present gen eration of students resident here—as also those to come—are indebted to him and taught by him in but a lesser degree than were those who saw him and heard his trenchant teachings. The continued existence of this Institute would be dear to him; its perpetuation is his most impressive monument. For the oper ation o f an institution unhampered by debt, there can be no ques tion that Dr. Torrey, T. C. Horton, and Lyman and Milton Steward whose lives were closely linked with the early days of the Institute, would stand firmly today, were they with us. “ Go Forward” Campaign Outlined The “ Go Forward” Campaign now in progress is the most com prehensive attempt that has yet been made to free this Institute from its handicapping debt and to advance the work of the school. The campaign’s dimensions are large enough to provide for every need. Its terms are easy enough to embrace every well wisher. Here is the plan in brief: Scope o f Campaign: Every debt and obligation is included in
