AVS Annual Report 2024

Angela Fisher - Director of Equity & Community

The AVS community enjoyed many enriching cultural experiences this past year. Special celebrations included a visit from Cascada de Flores, an ensemble that provided interactive musical storytelling for Hispanic Heritage Month. In November, AVS students on both campuses participated in the annual Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day, celebrating the legacy of Ruby Bridges as a trailblazing first-grader in her Louisiana school. With purple flags and banners from the Ruby Bridges Foundation, we marched together to honor Ruby’s bravery and commitment to education. In January, the middle school and lower school came together for a very special performance titled Martin and Music. Mr. Gerald Rivers spoke as the voice of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., while Mr. Charles Holt performed songs from the civil rights movement. Throughout the school year, families and students shared beautiful aspects of their cultural heritage at Community Meetings for Holi, Diwali, Rosh Hashanah, Ramadan, and more. For the Lunar New Year, we welcomed back LionDanceME, featuring students and teachers from our community as members of the dance troupe. Here’s to another year of sharing and celebrating our rich cultural diversity at AVS!
