Lagan College Prospectus 2023

AN INTEGRATED INTAKE Shane McDonagh Nancarrow – Year 8

Sergei Borisov – Year 8 When I first started Lagan, I was not very nervous because I had three brothers already there. My highlights are going on a school trip and getting a high score in Science. My favourite subjects are science and PE because in PE we are doing football and in Science I like it because I’m good at it. I have settled well into Lagan and I have a bunch of friends. Ivan Borisov – Year 10 When I first got a place at Lagan, I was very happy as I would be going with my brothers. I was still very nervous on my first day though. The staff at the school are all very kind and helpful. My favourite subjects are chemistry and maths as I have very nice teachers who help me whenever I need it. I am looking forward to going on the French trip and I hope to improve my French. Nikolai Borisov – Year 10 When I first attended Year 8 at Lagan College I was incredibly anxious as it was a large, unfamiliar environment, however, all the staff were incredibly friendly and kind so those feeling quickly vanished. I found friends and began to enjoy my new school. My favourite subjects are Art and Chemistry. Lockdown was difficult for me but my teachers were very helpful and I still managed to continue to learn. I am looking forward to choosing my GCSE subjects this year and joining Senior School. Maxim Borisov – Year 12 I was very pleased to have received a place at Lagan back when I was 11 and have enjoyed it ever since. My favourite things about it are my friends, whom I have known since Year 8 and my favourite subjects include Chemistry and Biology. I have always felt well supported by the teachers and staff here. Formerly attended St Joseph’s Primary School

Megan Mitchell – Year 10 I always wanted to come to Lagan as my older brother came here and talked about how amazing it was. Coming to Lagan I felt very welcomed as I had attended Camp Camilla (now Lagan Camp) during the summer. I made friends quickly and came to realise there was a space for everyone. I was keen to join the hockey team in Year 8 but due to Covid that was postponed until Year 9. I am now Vice Captain of the Under 14s team. Lagan has given me many opportunities like leading a face painting workshop at the Lagan Summer Camp. I particularly enjoy Art and Drama as I am very creative. I have had the chance to move up classes so I can learn to the best of my ability and the teacher and staff here have continued to look after us and give us what we need. I am also looking forward to attending the trip to Paris in June with my I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Lagan College. It has provided numerous opportunities for me to grow, experience and develop as a young person. I have been able to represent the school for the football team, in which I was captain, and for the cross-country team at district competitions. I have given speeches in front of hundreds of parents and students at prize events where I developed skills of public speaking and speech writing. In first year, I was able to go on a trip to Ganaway with the rest of my year which was an incredible experience and helped in getting to know my new friends. I joined Lagan in first year having known only two or three people, but that quickly changed with the help of the teachers and other welcoming students. Some of my favourite subjects would be PE, Maths and Chemistry where I am constantly learning and enjoying lessons thanks to great teachers in school. Lagan has treated me so well! Formerly attended Leadhill Primary School friends in French class. Noah Mitchell – Year 13

I transitioned into Lagan really well, whether that was because I had moved school before or it is the way Lagan is laid out. One of my highlights was moving between classes, as weird as that sounds, it is quite refreshing, especially if it is a double lesson. One of my favourite classes is Science because I find it very interesting and my teacher makes it fun. Tara McDonagh Nancarrow – Year 12 I’m very thankful that I am a student at Lagan College as I have experienced great moments and have made friendships that will last a lifetime. I have achieved things I didn’t think I could and I couldn’t have done it without the support of my teachers. I am glad I have my older brother Teelin to show me the way and give me guidance and I hope I can do the same for my little brother Shane as I hope he has as good an experience as Teelin and I did. When I first made the transition to secondary school, I was a little bit nervous, but I quickly settled in and felt proud to be a student at an excellent school. Teelin McDonagh Nancarrow – Year 14 As my time at Lagan College comes to an end, I look back at all the great opportunities and experiences this school has given me. I am grateful for the wide range of subjects Lagan offers, such as Sociology, which I thoroughly enjoy. Lagan has given me vast opportunities to explore different hobbies through their lunchtime and after school clubs such as, drama, basketball and art club. If you enjoy theatre, Lagan College is for you. Taking part in the school show every year from first year to now has been a true highlight. I am now trained in mediation and problem solving through the Sixth Form Enrichment Programme, which has been useful in and outside of school. The Dublin trip, which I took part in Year 8, allowed me to explore and understand more about the Irish culture. The transition from primary school to Lagan for me was easy, as it felt like an extension of primary school, with great pastoral care. Formerly attended Lough View Integrated Primary School
