Lagan College Prospectus 2023

Mia Hehir – Year 8 I am the youngest member of my family to attend Lagan College. My three older brothers and twin sister attend too. Myself and my twin sister, Faye, were the only students from our primary school to get an opportunity to go to Lagan College so it was really nice to share a form class on the first morning. I believe we have the best form teacher. She is simply amazing, kind and full of information that has helped me feel very welcome in Lagan College. I wasn’t able to play hockey for my local team, so I was delighted to be offered an opportunity to play in the hockey team for Lagan. We did a training week during the summer holidays for both hockey and netball, it was really fun and we met lots of new faces that would turn out to be my best friends by the time we started school in September. Faye Hehir – Year 8 My first experience of Lagan College has been nothing but welcoming! All the teachers have been so kind and helpful. My first day was a little daunting until I met my form teacher and classmates where I was immediately put at ease. I have big brothers and a twin sister in the school so I had a rough idea of what to expect but it has definitely been better than anything I could have imagined. Moving from subject to subject really breaks up the day and makes the day fly in really fast. I especially enjoy netball and hockey and have used these clubs to integrate my friendships right across the school. My favourite subjects are the languages. My dad is a fluent Irish speaker and I have enjoyed the opportunity to practice my Irish learning with him. Alill Hehir – Year 10 I am currently in Year 10. My first experience of Lagan College was to attend the Open Day whilst I was still in primary school. I knew from this first visit that I was going to love it. I undertook crazy science experiments, made toaster tongs and ate great food in the Home Economics Department, all with the support from our fab, fun teachers. I then attended the Lagan College Summer Camp which allowed me the opportunity to get to know my way around the school before officially starting in September. I also got to make friends with some of the other new pupils. My favourite activity of the summer scheme was technology, where we were encouraged to get stuck in using the equipment. I would encourage anyone to take part in the Lagan Summer Camp and to also take part in after school activities as it really helps you to become involved in Lagan life. Finn Hehir – Year 13 I was a pretty shy child in primary school and was a little unsure about going to a big school like Lagan College, but if I could go back now and tell myself anything, I would say please don’t worry it’s really not that big! There are lots of lovely teachers and staff to help guide you to where you need to go. I am now in Year 13 and I have changed a lot. I am no longer shy and I put a lot of that down to the confidence gained from being part of Lagan and its encouraging ethos where everyone is included and all abilities are valued. Some of my favourite things about my school would be the friends for life I have made and the wonderful memories we have made together, the best of which was the ski trip to Italy. It was amazing! I think I fast tracked my beginner ski lessons to intermediate overnight. I have also enjoyed being part of the school rugby team and helping coach the younger students after school as part of my BTec Sport. I can’t imagine being at any other school and I am really enjoying my Sixth form studies. Formerly attended St Comgall’s Primary School

Eden Searle Year 8 My experience at Lagan so far has been really enjoyable. All of my teachers have been kind and helped my class and me to settle in. I really enjoy Geography and learning about all the different types of geography. I also really enjoyed learning all about 1066 in History. I have been on one trip so far, it was the team building day in September and even though it was raining all day I made new friends and had a really great time. The transition from primary school to Lagan was good. There are lots of people from my primary school, which meant that I already knew lots of people. I have made new friends from other schools too. I have really enjoyed playing hockey with the U12 girls and have made good friends with my team mates. I also joined the netball team to try it out and I really enjoy it! There are so many clubs. I also go to the Traditional music group, art, public speaking and music theory. Patrick Searle Year 11 During my four years at Lagan I have had many opportunities the school has opened up for me. In my first year we went to Ganaway Activity Centre and did loads of fun activities such as rock climbing, an adventure course and even a 100 foot zipline! I go to loads of after school clubs including sports, a Christian social group and public speaking club. Last year, I competed in a public speaking competition and came first in everything that I did. I couldn’t have done it without the help of my peers in public speaking and especially the teacher leading it, who is brilliant. Lagan can and will support you in everything and will help you to fit and settle into the school from the very start. Isaac Searle Year 12 I have really enjoyed my time so far at Lagan College and am looking forward to the next few years. My highlights are the sporting opportunities like basketball and Gaelic football and also that my teachers make lessons fun with practical activities. As the oldest sibling I joined not knowing many people because my main primary school friends didn’t go to Lagan. My teacher helped me with any questions I had about the changes in secondary school so it wasn’t ever daunting. My favourite subjects at GCSE are Maths, Geography, Physics and Chemistry. Every lesson makes me feel involved and the teachers push me to be the best I can and help me achieve good results. I am looking forward to the next few years of school

Destiny Ezeribe – Year 8 My first months at Lagan College have been fantastic! The teachers and staff have been super kind and helpful. My favourite subjects are Spanish, HE and PE. I was so excited to start learning a new language and I’ve already learnt so much. The best part of HE to me personally has to be making and eating the food we make, alongside learning new life skills. Everybody that I have met has been so nice and I have made so many new friends. I can’t wait to make even more memories As the years went by, my time at Lagan kept improving. One of my highlights was in Year 8 at the Ganaway trip when I went ziplining. Some subjects I really like are Art, Technology and Spanish as I find them fun and interesting. I really enjoy playing netball and playing matches with the team! The teachers here are fantastic and very helpful as they continually help me improve. I have had a great time at Lagan College so far but I know there will be many great opportunities to come as the years go by. in the years to come at Lagan! Fortunate Ezeribe – Year 11
