An Ara graduate, Sud holds a National Diploma in Quantity Surveying while Tom has followed a different path, training in project management after completing a BA(Hons) in Diplomacy and International Relations at the University of Canterbury. Both believe there are unlimited opportunities in a range of construction fields, explaining that university is not the only option as pre- trade courses, diplomas and degrees, apprenticeships, cadet programmes, and intern roles all open doors to rewarding careers. Medicine Next, medical students Luke Gellen (14294) and Anthony Goh (14296) have recounted their experiences at the University of Sydney and the University of Otago, respectively, assuring the attentive students that while medicine is very competitive,

there are many pathways. Both Old Boys left College in 2015, with Luke in his penultimate year of medicine at the University of Sydney and Anthony a sixth-year trainee intern at Christchurch Hospital. Luke’s studies began with a Bachelor of Science majoring in Physiology at Otago. An undergraduate degree is required for entry into the Sydney Medical School. He believes that Australia offers more funding for medicine and greater opportunities. For Anthony, studying in New Zealand means access to interest-free student loans, ready job opportunities, and a great chance to spend your student years with friends. While they have taken different paths, they point out the value in considering all options. Computer Science

undertaking a Master’s Degree in Computer Science at one of the most prestigious universities in the world – Stanford. A former International Olympiad in Informatics competitor, Chris has returned to College to describe his path from Jacobs House to the United States, outlining the multiple opportunities overseas for those boys interested in Computer Science. Architecture Architectural graduate and Old Boy Ben Russell (13621) works for

a practice in Christchurch. Having spent two years at

Victoria University of Wellington working on a Bachelor of Design Innovation in Industrial & Product Design, two years at Ara Institute of Canterbury where he gained his Bachelor of Architectural Studies, and then two years on a Master’s programme at UNITEC in Auckland, Ben believes he has benefitted greatly from his experience.
