Miss Mary Schlichting ’20, was married to Mr. John H ilburn, August 15th. Their home, is in Los Angeles. Miss Mary H all ’17, expects to sail for Jap an October 1st. Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Schlichter of China, announce the b irth of E lizabeth M argaret on July 21st. P red Hoffman, '’21, is a t work in Ash­ land, Kentucky. He w rites: “ I like the people here—they are so cordial and re­ sponsive, and they are ju st hungry for the old Gospel sto ry .. I t is a joy to preach the Word here—and I am more certain th an ever th a t the Lord led me here, and ' th a t I am in the place where He wants m e.” . Mrs. Carl Hummel w rites from Central America, “ Our Sunday sehool is larger th an it ever has been, two Sundays ago we had our highest attendance whieh was 176. Our difficulty now is in finding benches enough to seat all th e people. We do not mean to give th e impression th a t people are tu rn ing to the Gospel by the hundreds, nevertheless day by day the fanaticism is being broken down and there is much more interest today th an in times past. W e -h a v e more trouble w ith the officials and ‘higher-ups,’ as the political

Mrs. George Van Dusen ’20, w rites from Aba, Congo Beige, A frica: “ George le ft yesterday for another village ten miles from here to open up an out-station. The Catholics have started work there, so we w ant to build a school-house there and teach them, th e gospel . . . . There are eight men and a dozen or more boys living on the station. The men are p u tting up station houses and the boys attend school and wojrk around after school. We have two gospel services each day for them. Also have other services during the day for people who come to the station to sell food, etc. Then tw ice a week we go to near-by villages and hold • gospel services and do medical work. A great many peo­ ple come here for medical treatm en t every day. I t is a fine way to win the con­ fidence of the people. Miss Gwendolyne Colling, a former even­ ing student,' is secretary to Dr. Massee, pastor of the B aptist Temple, Brooklyn, N. Y. ¡Miss Caroline Meier ’20, is engaged in Jew ish work in New York City under the Christian and \ Missionary Alliance, She says th a t th e streets 'o f New York are crowded w ith Jew ish people and th a t they have no difficulty in g ettin g , large crowds . a t street meetings, which is the only way of reaching them outside of visitation work. Miss Ellen Parker, ’15, has been accept­ ed by th e Christian and M issionary A l­ liance board fo r work in Ecuador. H erbert Burnside is attending the Nyaek T raining In stitu te this year.
