their match against Brighton College, visit the current archive exhibition and wander round the College grounds, perhaps for the first time in many years. 16 October – Durham Dinner Alex Nelson hosted the reunion dinner in the Senate Suites of the magnificent Durham Castle. It was attended by a large range of Alleynians; 28 guests in total. 30 October – Alleyn Club Dinner The Great Hall was filled by more than 190 OAs, staff and invited guests for the Alleyn Club’s 2015 Annual Dinner. Alleynians of every generation were represented, from Senior Prefects through to the Senior Member, Major Dennis Knight MBE (33-39). The Annual Dinner is the highlight of the Club’s social calendar, but this year’s event also served to honour Chris Field (OA 51-59; Staff 69-00; Past President), who retired from the role of Club Secretary at the end of 2015. A portrait of Chris, produced by Terry Kent (HOA) was unveiled in the Board Room at the conclusion of the Club’s AGM to mark Chris’ service as Acting Master of the College between 1995 and 1997. This was followed by a reception in the Lower Hall, before everyone made their way upstairs for dinner in the Great Hall. The President, Ivor Warburton (57-65), was in the chair and, at the conclusion of dinner, delivered an engaging presentation on his year in office, including a summary of his overseas trips to meet OAs on three continents. Four members of staff received Honorary Staff Membership of the Club upon reaching 20 years on the staff: Sarah Crossley (Religious Studies); Chris Ottewill (Head of Mathematics); Maggie Russell (Mathematics); and Seb Wakely (Classics). The evening concluded with the formal handing over of the Presidency to Peter Lyon (52-60). 11 November – Past Presidents’ Lunch, Dulwich College The President joined 18 of his predecessors, the Vice President, members of the committee and members of senior academic staff in The Pavilion Salle on Armistice Day, following the College Act of Remembrance at the War Memorial. 14 November – Canon Carver Society Lunch The lunch was attended by 72 members and guests. Members of the College’s Canon Carver Society, which recognises those who have remembered the College in their will, gathered in the James Caird Hall, where guests were treated to a recital by the Middle School String Quintet. Fittingly, three of the boys were playing instruments – two violins and the cello – made by and left to the College by one of the

Society’s members, John Chapman. The musical introduction provided a lovely tribute in recognition of a very generous and personal legacy. The reception was followed by an excellent lunch held in the Lower Hall. Sir Peter Bazalgette OA (62-71), President of the Canon Carver Society, wrapped up the speeches, reporting that there are 127 living members and that membership grows each year. To date the College has received in excess of £5 million from Canon Carver Society members, a wonderful testament to the collective impact of this loyal group. The College is most grateful to Canon Carver Society members for their generosity, which has supported a wide range of projects from the bursary programme, to faculty housing and to the improvement of facilities for Science and Music. 21 November – Sussex Lunch Hosted by Group Captain Derek North DL (56-63) and his wife, Val, the 2015 Sussex Lunch was attended by 29 OAs and guests. The Cooden Beach Hotel near Bexhill-on-Sea was again the venue, with the party enjoying drinks in the bar before sitting down to a very pleasant three course lunch. This was the first formal engagement for the new President of the Alleyn Club, Peter Lyon (52-60), who updated the group on the health of the Club and his ambitions for his year in office, including a desire to run more regional events such as the Sussex Lunch.
