27 June – Founder’s Day

In the evening the covered stage took the concert to another level and our boys responded with a programme of extraordinary quality for an audience of around 2000. 9 September – OAs in the City Networking Tom Lawrence hosted 64 OA’s, pupils and staff at the Mayfair offices of Killik & Co for a reception and discussion of ‘Referendums, Reshuffles and Regulation: Economics and Politics in the UK, Europe and the World’. The discussion featured OA’s; The Rt Hon Peter Riddell CBE OA (59-66), Director of the Institute for Government and The College’s new Chair of Governors, and Lionel Barber, Editor of The Financial Times. Peter and Lionel shared their opinions on a wide range of matters, from Scottish independence and the future of Britain in Europe to China’s place in the global economy, German leadership of the EU and the future of Western relations with Russia. The evening was immensely enjoyed by all and ‘unofficially’ continued at the RAC Club, nearby. 25 September – Wessex Dinner The OA Wessex Dinner at Sherborne School in Dorset, organised once again by Chris Austen, held 26 guests in attendance. A pre and post-dinner reception was held in the comfort of Bow House, with dinner served in the magnificent Old School Room. 3 October – Benefactor’s Reception and Annual OA Reunion

The College welcomed more than 150 Old Alleynians, parents, former members of staff and their guests for two events: the Benefactors’ Reception and the 37th OA Reunion. Held within Phase 1 of The Laboratory, the Benefactors’ Reception allowed many supporters to view the facilities for the first time and provided all guests with the opportunity to learn about the impact of Phase 2. Many of our Old Alleynian benefactors stayed on and were joined by others who arrived for a service in the Old Library, led by the College’s new Chaplain, Revd Justin White. Lunch was held in the James Caird Hall, before many OAs and their families took the opportunity to watch the 1st XV take victory in

The theme ‘Endurance and Discovery’ produced an extraordinary variety of events, from the wonderfully choreographed opening ceremony, to a classroom full of boys creating computer games in a workshop led by an OA. The innovative Creative Trail and The Laboratory created a huge amount of interest and excitement. Thanks are due to our guests of honour, Justin Webb, the Hon. Alexandra Shackleton, the Shackleton Live team and William Grill for inspiring students and staff alike, but the greatest praise must go to our boys who threw themselves into every event with enthusiasm and gusto for the entertainment of the College’s wider
