Litter watch! Environmental care

CHAMPIONS During the Spring Term, children at Abbey will be learning about how litter affects our environment and they will be asked to take a responsible attitude towards litter. The Abbey Junior PCSO team will be delivering assemblies to the children and taking part in the Big Spring Clean, alongside our local Police, PCSOs, Litter Watch and the Warley Woods Community Trust to keep our school g rounds, ne ighbour ing s t reet s and local community clean and tidy. If any parents or carers would like to help out with our community litter picks, then please join us on Friday 29th March at 2pm and Tuesday 9th April at 9am, at the Junior site. Litter Watch have delivered two 'crisp recycling containers' to our school and we are encouraging all the children to dispose of their crisp packets in these bins. Crisp packets are a 'hard-to-recycle material', so by encouraging children to dispose of the packaging in our bins they can be collected and recycled into plastic pellets. Then used in items such as outdoor furniture. ‘Walkers’ pledge that they will be making their crisp packets biodegradable by 2025, so in the meantime we encourage children and families to bring in their crisp packets to school for recycling. There is even a prize for schools who collect the most crisp packets, so please get donating to give us a chance to win the prize.

Thanks to Mrs. Flanagan for the story.
