RAIN On Friday, Dave (the rainforest man) came to our school to give us an insight into the rainforest. Dave has been going to the rainforest with his family for thirty plus years- so he has lots to tell us! First, Dave answered all of our questions about the rainforest. Then, he brought around New Guinea stick insects and a snake for us to see. He showed us the blow pipe, which is a weapon for hunting in the rainforest, and shot a balloon from a distance - the dart travels at 150 mph! After lunch, we took part in three workshops. These included: observational drawing of real insects, jewellery making and holding various animals (a snake, tarantula and a millipede). We had such a great day! Thanks to Hannah 5W, Daniel 5M and Lily 5H. ZOO Recently, Year 5 ventured to Chester Zoo to open our topic and explore animals from the rainforest. We saw a range of animals throughout the day such as: rhinos, sloths, jaguars, bats, elephants, giraffes, capybara and lots more! The baby giraffe and elephant were the cutest. We learnt lots of interesting facts along the way and we were informed of animals that are endangered. After lunch, we had our ‘Rainforest Explorers’ workshop. We explored lots of real artefacts, completed a quiz and learnt about the current issues within the rainforests and how they are being destroyed. We even got to smell real jaguar wee - it was disgusting! We had such a great day at Chester Zoo.

Thanks to Charlie 5H, Harry 5W and Amanda 5M.
