conversion for extra points. The senior boys had a week break following the match againstVCI. Lawford noted that a cou- ple of the team’s forwards will sit out the East- ern Ontario Secondary School Athletic Associa- tion (EOSSAA) title games because of dislocated shoulders. "We are pretty beat up, " he said, about the battering the Wildcats have taken during the course of the past season. "But we’ve got to play the same kind of game as we did against VCI. Get our tackles and make opportunities for our backs." The Wildcats varsity girls have claimed their EOSSAA pennant after shutting down South Grenville in the finals in Prescott on May 24. Rockland was supposed to host the EOSSAA girls finals but a last-minute location change was made. The RDHS varsity girls take a week off until they head on the road to Ottawa and the Twin Elm Rugby Park for the three-day Ontario Fed- eration of Secondary School Athletic Associa- tions (OFSSA) championships starting Monday, June 4.

Coach Ehret noted that this year is the third time in RUSC history that the club has been able to field an L3 level team, also known as the re- gional level. Last year the current U16 Knights finished second in their U15 L4 season and earned promotion to the regional level for the following year. Kingston United finished first in L4 and was also promoted to L3 for the 2012 season. Ehret described the L3 competition level as an excellent opportunity for the players as they will play against “eight quality clubs from all around Eastern Ontario.” League matches for the Knights are every Tuesday and the home games on the schedule will be at the Rockland District High School soc- cer/rugby field. The feature race saw Kelsey starting out in the 14th-place position and working his way around the track to finish fourth for another top five placing of the season schedule and giving the Plantagenet racing team a top-three posi- tion in the championship ratings for the season so far. Team Kelsey returns to the MIR track June 1 for a Friday night run then over to the Cornwall Mo- tor Speedway on Sunday for the first race of the Super Dirt Series (SDS). Kelsey hopes to run the whole SDS schedule this season through eastern and southern On- tario and central New York stage, including the Syracuse Super Dirt Week challenge. The goal is to improve on last year’s seventh-place overall finish in the SDS points total and the 15th-place finish in the Mile event. tumnfree@live.ca. Coach Tony Ehret is looking forward to seeing his players excel this summer as the Rockland United Soccer Club U16 Boys L3 team shut out the opposition 3-0 in its official season league opener against Nepean City over the May long weekend. “It was an excellent effort by many players to start the season,”Coach Ehret stated.“Goalkeep- ing and defensive play were strong, along with a strong, opportunistic offensive in the second half when all three goals were scored.” Darren Anderson booted in two goals for the Knights and Adam Cooke accounted for the third point on the scoreboard. Plantagenet | The May long weekend proved a promising start to the 2012 car race season for Team Kelsey. Rockland | They’ve taken their hits this season but the Wildcats are still ready, willing and ea- ger to throw themselves at the competition this Thursday in Kingston for a chance at a re- gional title in senior boys high school rugby. The Wildcats hammered the Vankleek Colle- giate Rebels 25-5 in the final league match of the season for Prescott-Russell. The Rebels had the home turf advantage and scored the first try of the May 17 match during the first 10 minutes of the first half. It was also the last time they got the ball that close enough to their goal line. "We controlled the play after that point, " said Wildcats Coach Andrew Lawford. "They were big, much bigger than us. We started making our tackles, getting the ball to our backs, and our backs took advantage of their (scoring) oppor- tunities.
