Building brighter futures
is inspiring tomorrow’s workforce. Telford Together is helping to strengthen the connection between education and industry by bringing schools, colleges and employers together to inspire the Borough’s future workforce. Led by Telford & Wrekin Council, the initiative gives young people the opportunity to explore local career pathways through engaging, hands-on experiences with businesses. At the same time, it supports employers to build future talent pipelines, deliver social value and work more closely with schools, while helping education providers meet the Gatsby Benchmarks for careers education. The programme launched with Digital Sparks, introducing students to careers in digital technology, AI and automation through interactive sessions with local employers. More recently, Construction Sparks welcomed Year 10 students to The Quad in Station Quarter, where they discovered that the construction industry offers far more than traditional trades, with careers spanning planning, architecture, project management, digital design and emerging technologies. Working alongside partners including Harper Adams University, Telford College and businesses from across the Borough, Telford Together complements the Council’s Stay Near, Go Far campaign by showcasing the wide range of career, training and education opportunities available locally.
“Supporting Telford Together gives us the opportunity to engage with young people at an early stage and help them understand the wide variety of careers available within construction. It’s important that students see the opportunities that exist locally and hear directly from people working in the industry. By working with schools and partners, we can help inspire the next generation and encourage more young people to consider careers that will benefit both them and the future of our sector.” Paul Inions, Managing Director, McPhillips
