helps Telford and Wrekin thrive. Volunteering

Volunteering benefits both individuals and communities. Alongside supporting vulnerable residents and strengthening local neighbourhoods, it gives people a greater sense of purpose and connection to the place where they live. By contributing their time and skills, volunteers can grow in confidence, feel more involved in their community and experience the satisfaction that comes from making a positive difference. It can also support personal wellbeing by helping people stay active, build meaningful relationships and feel part of something bigger than themselves.

More than 2,000 Telford & Wrekin Council Street Champions and hundreds of other volunteers are making a real difference across our Borough. Across Telford and Wrekin, thousands of people are volunteering to help others, improve neighbourhoods and support community wellbeing. At the heart of this community effort is the Borough’s hugely successful Street Champions scheme, which recently surpassed 2,000 volunteers and continues to grow. Street Champions play a vital role in helping to keep Telford and Wrekin clean, safe and welcoming. Volunteers organise litter picks, help maintain community spaces and report issues such as fly-tipping, graffiti and overgrown vegetation. Their efforts make a visible difference in neighbourhoods across the Borough and demonstrate the pride residents have in their local communities. Volunteering through the Street Champions scheme is open to everyone who lives or works in the Borough, with opportunities for individuals, families and businesses to get involved, including through the Council’s workplace volunteering scheme. Street Champions are just one of many opportunities available through Volunteer Telford. Residents can also get involved as Health Champions, volunteering in libraries, supporting children’s safeguarding and family services, becoming Mystery Customers, serving on School Admission Review Panels, contributing to the Making It Real Board and many more. The Council is also supported by dedicated Snow Wardens who help keep communities moving safely during periods of snow and ice. Their work is backed by the Council’s growing network of 1,000 grit bins, available for communities across the Borough when winter weather strikes.
