DAY 2: HILLWOOD ESTATE/WASHINGTON NATIONAL CATHEDRAL In 1955 Marjorie Merriweather Post bought Hillwood and soon decided her home would be a museum that would inspire and educate the public. She hired landscape architects, Umberto Innocenti and Richard Webel to expand the existing gardens. Together we’ll take a guided tour of these gardens to learn about their design and history. Afterward, enjoy lunch on the grounds of the estate. Later, enjoy a guided tour of Washington National Cathedral before roaming the cultivated gardens, including the Bishop’s Garden and Olmstead Woods. B, L DAY 3: MOUNT VERNON Embark on a journey to Mount Vernon, the historic estate of George Washington. After exploring the mansion, take a guided landscape tour to appreciate Washington’s
