Protection Team News NAVIGATING STORMY WATERS AND SHINING BRIGHT IN FOOTBALL SEASON

Whew! We certainly experienced a sigh of relief last month, didn't we? I'm referring to Hurricane Idelia, which, as we've discussed before, serves as a reminder that our good fortune can sometimes be someone else's misfortune. Fortunately, this time around, the hurricane veered toward a less densely populated area when it made landfall. However, for our friends in the Tampa Bay area, it brought about flooding issues with the combination of a very high tide and storm surge. The harrowing live reports from local news stations showcasing the rescue efforts during the storm were truly heart-wrenching. It's a stark reminder of the importance of adhering to mandatory evacuation orders when they are issued. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the first responders who selflessly faced these adverse conditions to bring those in need to safety. While the early damage assessments are still rolling in, it's safe to say that the financial impact will be staggering, likely reaching into the billions, possibly exceeding $10 billion. It's worth keeping an eye on how this will affect the insurance industry, particularly here in Florida. Notably, during the time frame of June 10-19, 2023, more than 1,000 reports of hail and damaging winds occurred across 25 states. Additionally, there were 93 reports of tornadoes during that period, with two confirmed EF-3 tornadoes touching down in Texas and Mississippi (as reported in National Underwriter, August 2023). It appears that the insurance industry is grappling with a series of challenges that just won't let up. The repercussions are felt by all of us in terms of increased premiums, limitations on policy availability, and even job losses within the industry. This period of uncertainty is set to persist for some time. We must

remember that we are not yet out of the woods in this hurricane season. If Florida faces another hit this year, the consequences for premiums and the number of available carriers could be dire. In light of this, we urge you to ensure your policy is in force as soon as possible and have a well-thought-out evacuation plan in place. On a brighter note, football season is upon us once again, from high school to college and the pros. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have recently announced that Baker Mayfield will be the starting quarterback for the opening game. However, I believe that as the season progresses, we might see Kyle Trask taking the helm in the huddle. His preseason performance has been quite promising, but Baker, with his experience and significant contract, rightfully earned the initial nod. Let's rally behind our Bucs, Bulls, and Gators as they embark on their journeys this season! Until next month,

DON’T GET CAUGHT UNPROTECTED 3 Important Reasons for All Renters to Carry Renters Insurance Do you or a loved one live in a rented home or apartment? We find that many tenants often underestimate the importance of carrying renters insurance. In fact, studies show that as of 2020, only 57% of tenants in the U.S. carry renters insurance. Sometimes, individuals believe their landlord’s insurance policy will cover their belongings in the event of a disaster or theft, but this is a common misconception. Renters insurance is a crucial investment for renters because it offers financial protection and peace of mind. Here are a few ways renters insurance benefits tenants: Personal Property Protection Your landlord’s insurance policy typically covers the building and its structural elements but does not extend to your possessions. Imagine the devastating loss if a fire were to destroy your apartment or if a burglary occurred. Renters insurance ensures you can replace your furniture, electronics, clothing, and other valuables without a huge financial burden.

CRAZY SOCCER RULES OF THE PAST: HOW THE SPORT HAS EVOLVED OVER TIME Many consider soccer, or football for non-Americans, the most popular sport in the world. According to WorldAtlas, there are more than 3.5 billion soccer fans worldwide. It’s not surprising that soccer is so popular if you know the sport's history. While the game we know today originated in the 19th century, historical accounts show people played versions of soccer in ancient China, Greece, Rome, and South America. Because of soccer’s rich history, we’ve seen many rule changes since England founded the modern version of the sport. Here are some of the craziest soccer rules that would completely change the game if still in effect today. No Substitutions In today’s game, when a player gets tired, injured, or just isn’t playing well, the manager can replace the player with a substitute from the bench. This wasn’t always possible, however. Originally, substitutes were only acceptable when players didn’t show up for a game. Substitution rules differed depending on the league, but substitution wasn’t officially added to the Laws of the Game (the codified rules of association football) until 1958. Substitutes weren’t allowed in World Cup Finals matches for another 12 years. Golden Goal In most professional soccer leagues, when regular time ends in a draw, the two teams play for a set amount of time. If they’re still tied after that time is up, the game ends in a draw or goes to a penalty shootout. Before 2004, most professional leagues decided their games with a golden goal. Whoever scored first in extra time, won then and there. Fair Catch Everyone knows you should never use your hands while playing soccer unless you’re the goalie. In the early rules of soccer, outfielders could also catch balls out of the air. While they couldn’t throw the ball to a teammate, they could place it on the ground and kick it. This rule didn’t make it out of the 19th century.

Liability Coverage Accidents happen! You could be held responsible if someone is injured while on your rented property. Renters insurance can cover medical expenses and legal fees if you are found liable for the injury. This liability protection saves you from a large expense and a potential lawsuit. Temporary Housing Assistance If your rented property ever became uninhabitable due to a covered event, such as a natural disaster or a fire, renters insurance can provide coverage for temporary housing. This ensures you have a place to stay while your apartment or rented house is being repaired or until you can secure a new one. Renters insurance is the best way for all tenants to be prepared for the unexpected. The right insurance policy can make a big difference! Imagine seeing something like asparagus or artichoke on the plate in front of you for the first time and being told you must eat that weird-looking thing. That’s how many children experience food for the first time, which can feel like a scary experience. Kids who help cook in the kitchen are much more likely to try new and adventurous foods because they’re exposed to them and other ingredients over a period of time. They touch, slice, smell, crush, and season the foods before they ever eat them. So, by the time it hits their plate, it’s not so scary! No. 3: Cooking promotes healthy development.

Time spent in the kitchen isn’t all about eating, either. While cooking, children stir, mix, measure, roll, squeeze, spread, observe, learn, and count. These activities all help

develop fine motor, hand- eye coordination, math, and science skills, not to mention creativity!
