THE TWO MOST IMPORTANT WOMEN IN MY LIFE Celebrating My Mom and My Wife This Mother’s Day

With Mother’s Day right around the corner, this seems like the perfect opportunity to recognize the two most important women in my life: my wife Emily and my mom. When I consider everything I’ve accomplished throughout my life, it’s clear that I wouldn’t have gone very far without their support and constant encouragement. As much as I’d like to claim sole credit for any success I’ve found so far, I’m sure that the two of them are to thank for the lion’s share of it. “She’s always been the perfect example When I was growing up, my mom was there for absolutely everything I ever needed. She was the go-to person in the family, eager to help us out in any way she could. Whenever we had a problem or concern, we could talk it out with her and know that we’d receive some sound reaching for whatever dreams you have for your life, and never getting bored.” of constant self- improvement, of

advice. What’s more, she’s been a lifelong learner for as long as I can remember, a big reader with a wide breadth of knowledge. When I headed off to high school, she took a job as a librarian at my old school, which, as you can imagine, was useful whenever I was wracking my brain to finish some complicated homework assignment. She’s always been the perfect example of constant self-improvement, of reaching for whatever dreams you have for your life, and never getting bored. When I reached high school and she had a little more time, she decided to go back to school to secure her bachelor’s degree in education, continuing on to get two master’s degrees, as well. Today, she’s a teacher — an incredible one, in fact — and she keeps busier than ever. She’s always engaged in some new project, dabbling in something random or knitting really cool afghans. Of course, I’d be in trouble if I talked about Mother’s Day without mentioning my wife, Emily. I’m amazed every day at the skill and wisdom she has with our kids. She really puts us all first, making sure the kids have their snacks, their activities are clearly planned out and accounted for, and everyone’s needs are met at every moment. I can tell you for sure that without her on my team, my life would be a serious mess.

My Awesome Parents With My Son

Honestly, without both of these incredible women, I wouldn’t be anywhere near where I am today. Even though it’s basically impossible to express just how appreciative I am for both of their enormous contributions to my life, I’ll make sure to try my best this Mother’s Day. They mean the world to me, and I’m truly lucky to have them in my corner. -Luke Kron, PT Managing Partne

DEDUCTING ADVENTURE Ways to Write Off Your Fun

TRAVEL Seeing the world is a great way to enrich your life, but it can be tough on your bank account. However, under certain conditions, Uncle Sam may be willing to lend a hand. Most people think the only way to deduct travel expenses is by planning a business trip, but this is not the case. Write-offs also exist to help people who are traveling for knowledge or to do good in the world. If you write for a blog, need to do some regional research for a novel, or want to volunteer in a disadvantaged part of the world, your expenses incurred for these purposes can be deducted. EDUCATION For lifelong learners, continuing your education can be just as much of an adventure as sailing the open seas. Unfortunately, feeding your brain can cost

Have you ever injured your ankle by doing something simple, like stepping off a curb or kicking a soccer ball? Don’t

What you might not realize is that once you’ve injured your ankle, there’s a good chance that you could injure yourself again. This is what physical therapists strive to help you prevent. Their goal is not only to work with your ankle after the injury to get it back to normal, but also to strengthen the muscles around it to avoid future injuries. The rehabilitation process should be taken at a slow and careful pace, one that you’re comfortable with and that won’t push you beyond your physical capabilities. Your physical therapist will work with you to stretch and strengthen your ankle with a number of exercises, beginning with resistance exercises and eventually progressing to weight-bearing exercises. Keeping an open line of communication with your doctor and physical therapist will help you toward a speedy recovery. Ankle injuries can be tough to get through, but if you work with the professionals and take things slow and steady, you’ll be back up on your feet in no time.

be discouraged. Ankle sprains are among the most common injuries people face, and they

can happen anytime and anywhere.

There’s a good reason why ankle sprains are so common. You might not consciously think about something as simple as standing or walking — these motions are second nature to most of us. But when you really think about it, your ankle supports most of your weight, which is why injuring it is so commonplace. According to the American Physical Therapy Association, 23,000 people in the United States will suffer from a sprained ankle, and 45 percent of that number are sports-related injuries.

DON’T LET A SPORTS INJURY HOLD YOU BACK

For many individuals, enjoying a sport is a key component to a full life. When an injury or condition impedes your game, it can feel like the world has just ended — it’s crushing. But it doesn’t have to be! We at Four Corners Health & Rehabilitation are here to help you. We will work specifically on your particular injury and prescribe a program of care to ensure that it does not recur. Once we diagnose an injury, we first reduce any pain and inflammation. Then we determine if there is an underlying cause that triggered the injury. We also encourage patients who participate in a sport to see a physical therapist prior to the start of the season. This way, our therapists are able to condition the patient, which may prevent an injury in the first place. WITH SUDOKU TAKE A BREAK
