HIKING WITH YOUR KIDS Watch Their World Expand With Every Step

Hiking has many benefits as a family activity, such as mental health improvement, strengthening your relationships, and experiencing new sights and discoveries together. It’s also great exercise, and you get plenty of quality time, fresh air, and sunshine. Here are three guidelines to help you and your kids have fun on your next hike. One of the best ways to have your children learn about the world is letting them explore it. Being there for your children and encouraging them to ask questions about flowers, bugs, or animals you see on the trail will help them expand their vocabulary and learn how things work. When they learn they can explore independently and ask about the world around them, they’re gaining the confidence to teach themselves. ENCOURAGE THEIR CURIOSITY

BRING ALONG SOME TOOLS OF DISCOVERY

Getting your children to engage in nature while you’re out hiking can be as simple as bringing a magnifying glass along with you. Let your kids look at leaves, rocks, insects, or anything else you might come across on the trail. You can also bring binoculars to help them look at a bird that might be perched a little too high up. Another option is a bug holder to let your kids catch smaller insects, such as grasshoppers or pill bugs, and give them a close-up look.

to the weather. For example, if the day is sunny, wear sunglasses to protect your eyes from harmful UV rays and apply plenty of sunscreen on any exposed skin. Bring your kids’ favorite snacks and water bottles for everyone to stay hydrated. It’s crucial that you also bring a fully stocked first-aid kit in case someone is injured on the hike. Starting with one of your local hiking trails can be a rewarding way to spend the day with your kids. You can watch their excitement as they expand their world with new discoveries.

KEEP SAFETY IN MIND

While you’re out on the trail, it’s essential to make sure that both you and your family are safe. Wear breathable, noncotton material and sturdy shoes that don’t expose your toes. It’s important to dress according

How This Company Made Millions While Helping the Environment

A METHODICAL APPROACH TO BRANDING In an industry where the use of toxic chemicals in products is commonplace, one company stands out from the crowd. You may have seen Method’s cleaning products on the shelves of many cleaning and hygiene aisles, but what you might not be aware of is their history and drive to create biodegradable cleaners that won’t harm any plant or animal life. In 2000, friends Adam Lowry, a chemical engineer, and Eric Ryan, a marketer, set out to “disrupt” the cleaning industry. Environmentally friendly cleaning products had existed for years, and, for a long time, they were considered less effective than traditional soaps and cleaners. But Lowry and Ryan saw the opportunity to make environmentally friendly products that stood out from the competition. They began experimenting with ingredients that were less harmful in how they were sourced and manufactured. But they knew environmental friendliness alone would not be enough to draw customers. They would need to set apart their entire brand, so they enlisted the help of renowned designer and artist Karim Rashid to create a bottle to draw the eyes of customers. Rashid’s works have been displayed in the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and he has partnered with companies like Audi, Estee Lauder, and Samsung. Lowry and Ryan’s approach worked. Within a few years, Method was a $100 million company. That success led Belgian company Ecover to buy Method in 2012, a partnership that turned them into a $200 million company. Then S.C.

Johnson & Son bought Ecover and Method in 2017, expanding the brand even further. They currently have over 150 products on store shelves. As a part of Method’s mission, they are a certified Benefit Corporation, or B Corp. B Corps are certified by the nonprofit organization B Lab, based on their scores in environmental and social performance. Method acted on the consumer’s growing environmental awareness and created an incredibly successful company to meet that need.
